Maestro Arild Remmereit & BSO to Perform Tchaikovsky's Third Symphony, 10/18-19

Maestro Arild Remmereit and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) present a program of Tchaikovsky and Mozart on Saturday, October 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The concert includes Tchaikovsky's rarely heard Symphony No. 3, 'Polish,' Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major, performed by BSO Principal Flute Emily Skala, and the BSO premiere of 19th century female composer Elfrida Andree's Concert Overture in D Major. Millennials are overwhelmed with media options at every touch point, yet cinema continues to break through to them, delivering unrivaled results on key brand measures such as ad recall and purchase intent the highest among all demographic groups. Reinforcing cinema advertising's strength amongst this age group, Millennials are most likely to see a TV ad in cinema for the first time. They also indicated that going to the movies is such an important entertainment activity that they would not give it up, says new research from Insight Strategy Group and Lieberman. This research was commissioned by cinema-advertising leader Screenvision, whose theatres attract audiences of more than 50 percent Millennials, and is part of ongoing research into the behaviors and attitudes of this important, hard-to-reach demographic.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM to Launch Houston Ballet's 2014-15 Season; Lineup Announced!

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

Interim General Director Plato Karayanis and Artistic Director Tobias Picker announce OPERA San Antonio's inaugural season as the Resident Opera Company of the new Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Soho Rep Extends AN OCTOROON Through 5/24

In response to popular demand and one week before performances begin, Soho Rep. extends the world premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's An Octoroon, directed by Soho Rep. Artistic Director Sarah Benson, to May 24. Performances of An Octoroon will now take place April 23-May 24 (see schedule above) at Soho Rep. Critics are welcome as of Wednesday, April 30 for an official opening of Sunday, May 4 at 7:30pm.

Lincoln Center Announces MOSTLY MOZART FESTIVAL 2014, 7/25-8/23

Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director, today announced the 48th season of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, which runs from July 25-August 23, 2014. This year's Festival will feature more than 35 events across several venues including concerts, opera, dance, pre-concert recitals and lectures, late-night performances, contemporary music, and premieres of two commissioned works. The Festival kicks off with two free events: the world premiere of a new work by John Luther Adams, performed July 25 and 26 for free on Hearst Plaza, in a joint presentation with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and continuing an annual tradition, the free preview concert by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall on July 26. Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree returns for his 12th season to conduct the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, which will perform a wide range of works anchored by the Festival's featured namesake. Mostly Mozart will also present world-renowned artists and returning Festival favorites, such as violinist Joshua Bell, Mark Morris Dance Group, Emerson String Quartet and Artists-in-Residence International Contemporary Ensemble, as well as 14 Festival debuts, including pianists Yuja Wang and Steven Osborne, and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.

Founded in 1973 by acclaimed choreographer Lin Hwai-min as the first contemporary dance company in any Chinese-speaking community, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan features a repertoire rooted in Asian mythology, folklore, and aesthetics with a modern sensibility. Returning to the Northwest for the first time since Vancouver's 2010 Cultural Olympiad, the company makes their Seattle debut with Songs of the Wanderers, a visually stunning work inspired by Siddhartha's quest for enlightenment and brought to life on an astonishing set of 3-1/2 tons of shimmering golden grains of rice. Lin Hwai-min will accompany Cloud Gate to Seattle for their UW World Series engagement.
