Marsha Norman and Jason Robert Brown's THE TRUMPET OF THE SWAN Comes to the Wallis This Weekend

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents The Trumpet of the Swan, A Novel Symphony for Actors and Orchestra, adapted by Marsha Norman from E.B. White's timeless children's novel, with music by composer, Jason Robert Brown. Norman and Brown are also currently represented on Broadway with the new musical adaptation of The Bridges of Madison County. The Trumpet of the Swan, part of the Jack Elliott Family Concert Series, runs for a limited engagement, this weekend, May 2 - 4, 2014 at the Bram Goldsmith Theater.

The World Premiere of The Nightmares of Carlos Fuentes runs at the Arcola Theatre from 23 July until 16 August, with press night on 29 July 2014. Design is by Ellan Parry, lighting by Matt Eagland and sound by Andy Graham. Further casting will be announced shortly.

Rashid Razaq's new play, The Nightmares of Carlos Fuentes, is based on an award-winning short story by Hassan Blasim. It is directed by Nicolas Kent, who was Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre from 1984-2012. The cast includes Nabil Elouahabi who was a leading actor in the Olivier nominated, and critically acclaimed trilogy, The Great Game: Afghanistan, which ran at the Tricycle Theatre and toured throughout the US. He also was a series regular in Channel 4's BAFTA nominated Top Boy (series two).

Film Society of Lincoln Center Announces Details for 'Fassbinder: Romantic Anarchist'

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the details for Fassbinder: Romantic Anarchist (Part 1), May 16 - June 1. Divided into two parts, the retrospective will be the most extensive presentation of Fassbinder's films in New York since 1997, with Part 1 including almost all of his work leading up to 1974 and Part 2 (screening in November) to pick up from 1974 through 1982. The ambitious two-part series will include all of his theatrical features, much of his television work, films he starred in, films that influenced him, and films that were influenced by his work.

YO-YO MA to Join the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in a Grand Gala Concert, 6/1

World-renowned cellist YO-YO MA will join Music Director LARRY RACHLEFF and the RHODE ISLAND PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA in a grand gala concert to launch the Philharmonic's 70th anniversary season. Mr. Ma will play Elgar's Cello Concerto with the orchestra. The orchestra will also perform Stravinsky's Firebird Suiteand Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict Overture. The concert takes place Sunday June 1 at 7:00pm at The Vets in Providence, presented by Nortek and sponsored by Taco/The White Family Foundation, the Carter Family Charitable Trust, AmicaInsurance, Capital Properties and Roger Williams University. Music at First presents the music of American composer/storyteller Jerome Kitzke in a concert celebrating his upcoming album The Paha Sapa Give-Back (Innova - tbr 7/29/14) and the New York City premiere of an excerpt from Buffalo Nation (Bison bison) (2012), a theatrical musical historical survey of the bison in North America. Known for creating works inspired by American life, politics and literature, the program also includes The Character of American Sunlight (1996) featuring Kitzke's ensemble The Mad Coyote, and Winter Count (2008) performed by premier string quartet, ETHEL, and actor Jennifer Kathryn Marshall. Sundance Institute announced today the members of the six juries awarding prizes at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, January 16-26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 21 at Park City's Jupiter Bowl. Feature film awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 25 in Park City, hosted by husband-and-wife duo Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally and livestreamed at www.sundance.org/live. Offerman headlines the film Nick Offerman: American Ham in the Festival's Premieres section. Mullally voices a character in the English-language version of Ernest and Celestine, which will have its world premiere in the Festival's new Sundance Kids section.

Like nearly all of Williams's later, more experimental plays, The Mutilated was met with stinging reviews, disappointment and even anger when it premiered on Broadway in 1966 (with The Gnadiges Fraulein, under the collective title Slapstick Tragedy). "I know Mr. Williams is trying to do something ambitious and ambiguous but, gee, I wish he would just give something old and square like A Streetcar Named Desire," wrote John McClain in the New York Journal-American. Directed by Cosmin Chivu, legendary avant-garde performers Mink Stoleand Penny Arcade will star in the first New York revival of The Mutilated in 38 years. The production features original music composed byJesse Selengut, performed by the three-piece combo Tin Pan.
