Confirmed: Meryl Streep And Julia Roberts Cast In AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

It's official. According to Deadline Hollywood, Meryl Streep will play Violet Weston and Julia Roberts will play Weston's adult daughter, Barbara, in the film version of the Tony Award-winning Broadway play, August: Osage County, written by Tracy Letts. John Wells directs. August follows the Weston family women as their lives suddenly clash when family troubles arise and foce them to return to the Midwest house they grew up in, as well as the unorthodox woman who raised them. The Weinstein Company's Harvey and Bob Weinstein announced Wednesday that the film that will go into production this fall.

As BroadwayWorld reported back in 2010, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep have been in talks to star in the film adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play, August: Osage County. Producers at the Weinstein Company, which is developing the project alongside the show's producer Jean Dourmanian, had been hopeful to begin filming in the summer of 2011, however the project was sidelined for what was believed to be scheduling conflicts. Not much has been mentioned on its progress since.

David Mamet is a Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright, known for his own distinct style of dialogue aptly referred to as "Mamet speak". Mamet also directed the Broadway production of Race, which premiered December 2009 starring James Spader, David Alan Grier, Kerry Washington, and Richard Thomas. Gulfshore Playhouse first hit the Naples scene with a production of David Mamet's Oleanna in 2006.

Linda Kelsey Heads Benefit Performance of LOVE LOSS AND WHAT I WORE

Linda Kelsey, Saint Paul actress, five-time Emmy Award™ nominee and co-chair of Park Square Theatre's $4.2 million Next Stage Campaign, is raising money the old fashioned way - by putting on a show. To perform Love, Loss and What I Wore, Kelsey has assembled a cast of great women from the Twin Cities theatre scene to join her in the production: Sally Wingert (the Guthrie veteran last seen at Park Square in Spinning Into Butter), Mo Perry (featured in The Last Seder and Othello), Virginia Burke (who earned rave reviews for her turn in August: Osage County) and Aditi Kapil (one of Park Square's new Artistic Associates). Leah Cooper, who directed Park Square's searing season opener August: Osage County, will direct. The benefit performance will take place at Park Square one night only on Monday, February 13, 2012. Tickets are "pay what you think it's worth" and reservations will be available starting Friday, January 13.

Theatre Aspen's upcoming summer season, reported Artistic Director Paige Price. The award-winning regional theatre unveiled the brand new Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park on June 24th with two musicals and a comedy. The theatre's 28th season of summer repertory features the regional premiere of Becky's New Car, by native Coloradan Steven Dietz, starring Emmy- and Tony-nominee Sandy Duncan. Opening July 7th is the beloved musical Annie, by Thomas Meehan (book), Charles Strouse (music) and Martin Charnin (lyrics), and the new musical Vices: A Love Story, (story by Michael Heitzman & Ilene Reid, and music and lyrics by Susan Draus, Everett Bradley, Michael Heitzman and Ilene Reid). Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley and Managing Director Phil Santora announced a 41st season that will include three world premieres (bringing the company's total to 56); three regional premieres including the newest play by the author of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, Broadway's quirky hit musical about writers writing a quirky hit musical and a spell-binding mystery about a Japanese-American veteran charged with murder; and two Broadway favorites. The company will once again lead off with an extensive New Works Festival.
