Nick Westrate and Jeff Still Join Off-Broadway's TRIBES

The producers of the acclaimed new Off-Broadway hit Tribes have announced new additions to the clan: Nick Westrate, winner of a 2012 Special Drama Desk Award for his versatility in the 2011-2012 season (Unnatural Acts, Love's Labor's Lost, and Galileo) will temporarily assume the role of Daniel while Will Brill takes a leave of absence from May 30 - July 1, and Jeff Still, who originated leading roles in the Barrow Street Theatre productions of Our Town and Orson's Shadow (both directed by David Cromer),will assume the role of Christopher beginning July 1, replacing Jeff Perry, who departs to begin filming the second season of ABC's "Scandal." Tribes, which recently won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play,is currently in performance at The Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street). (more...)

Strawdog's THE DUCHESS OF MALFI Runs 4/19-5/26

Strawdog Theatre Company concludes its 24th season with a new adaptation of John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi, directed by Strawdog Artistic Director Brandon Bruce, adapted by Bruce and Christine Scarfuto, April 19 - May 26 at the Strawdog Theatre, 3829 North Broadway Street. The performance schedule is Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. Preview performance tickets are $15 with performances Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. There is a gala benefit performance, Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m., $50 tickets include access to post-performance reception. For its seventh season Boston Midsummer Opera (BMO) presents the comic piece, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, playing at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University for three performances only, July 25, 27, and 29. Obie Award winner/Tony Award nominee Austin Pendleton directs the fully staged and costumed production. Music director and nationally acclaimed conductor Susan Davenny Wyner leads the performances, which will be performed with orchestra and sung in English. We watch internet TV and we were asleep, and my phone rang. I groggily answered the phone and I put it together. My agent and manager were on the line to congratulate me. I cant even put it into words- I'm so flored by the company that I'm with- my fellow nominees, I guess you call them. I've admired them for years and it blows my mind. It has been a very big part of my life for quite a while so to have it recognized like this is a thrill. After receiving more than 100 productions (in several languages) worldwide, the Lebanese-Canadian writer's new play will be directed at A.C.T. by Artistic Director Carey Perloff in a beautiful translation from the original French by distinguished Canadian author Linda Gaboriau. Column Awards Winners Announced, Include ICT, Uptown Players, Dallas Theater Center

Monday February 27, THE COLUMN AWARDS (TCA) organization honored excellence in theater within the Dallas-Fort Worth Theater community, which held its 13th annual gala this past Monday. TCA is the only awards organization in the United States that donates all money (after expenses) to BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS. A charity they have been associated since its inception. To date, THE COLUMN AWARDS have donated close to $70.000.00 to BC/EFA. See the full list of winners below. (more...)

Strawdog Theatre Company concludes its 24th season with a new adaptation of John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi, directed by Strawdog Artistic Director Brandon Bruce, adapted by Bruce and Christine Scarfuto, April 19 - May 26 at the Strawdog Theatre, 3829 North Broadway Street. The performance schedule is Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. Preview performance tickets are $15 with performances Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. There is a gala benefit performance, Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m., $50 tickets include access to post-performance reception. Patti LuPone Honored with Signature Theatre's 2011 Stephen Sondheim Award

The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre will honor esteemed stage actress Patti LuPone with the company's third Stephen Sondheim Award. The award, established in 2009 in honor of America's most influential contemporary musical theater writer and composer, will be presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit on April 16, 2012 at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC. Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer said, 'I am thrilled that Patti LuPone will be this year's recipient of the Stephen Sondheim Award. With her wonderful performances in Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Company, Passion, and more - she has had an amazing connection to Steve's words and music.
