PITTSBURGH—The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Composer of the Year for the 2013-2014 season is eight composers—all of them based in Pittsburgh and connected to higher education.

SCU•PRESENTS is also proud to announce three new Music Directors and Conductors joining the Department of Music; John Kennedy, Music Director & Conductor, of the Santa Clara University Orchestra, Dr. Douglas Harris, Director of Bands, Santa Clara University Wind Symphony and Jazz Band and Scot Hanna-Weir, Music Director and Conductor, Santa Clara University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers.

Rehearsals are underway for Steppenwolf for Young Adults' world-premiere stage adaptation of the bestselling novel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, adapted by Heidi Stillman. The Book Thief is staged by Hallie Gordon in partnership with Chicago Public Library's One Book, One Chicago and the citywide, season-long Now Is The Time initiative with Chicago Public Library, Facing History and Ourselves and other local cultural organizations. The Book Thief runs October 16 - November 9, 2012 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St); the press performance is on October 20 at 3pm. The first professional gig on Bill Forrester's resume is Assistant Scenic Designer for a 1959 NY summer stock production starring Gloria Swanson & Groucho Marx. Not a bad start. Fifty two years later, Theatre Puget Sound is thrilled to announce that Bill Forrester will become the 14th individual to receive the illustrious Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award. The award will be presented at the 3rd Annual Gregory Awards Ceremony being held at ACT Theatre on October 17, 2011 as part of ARTS CRUSH month.
