The tempo was fine; it simply felt faster than normal because the dancing was so wonderful. It's to be expected. Set in 1821 New York, the play focuses on actual historical events where a small African-American theater company produced their production of Shakespeare's Richard III on the exact same night  the famous Park Theatre owned by Daniel Price opened their production featuring English actor Julius Booth as the deformed king. Segerstrom Center for the Arts Kicks Off 30th Anniversary Celebration with Tour de Force III Dance Spectacular

Segerstrom Center for the Arts begins its 30th Anniversary celebration with another one-night-only star-studded evening of dance: Tour de Force III. The performance will be the first event to represent the array and diversity of the Center's artistic programming, in this case, 30 years of presenting the greatest ballet companies and the world's most celebrated dancers. Tour de Force III will be on Saturday, August 27 in Segerstrom Hall. Produced in collaboration with Ardani Artists, the program will include four Center premieres: Clay by Vladimir Varnava, Zeitgeist by Alastair Marriott, Tristesse by Marcelo Gomes and Le Divertissement du Roi by Maxim Petrov. The international cast includes Diana Vishneva, Joaquin de Luz, Marcelo Gomes, Denis Matvienko, Marcelino Sambe?, Friedemann Vogel and Edward Watson, as well as members of the The Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada. Christopher Haydon to Step Down as Artistic Director of The Gate Theatre

Today, 14 June 2016, Christopher Haydon announced he will step down as Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre, leaving in January 2017 after five years of leading the company. His recently announced new season - Too Close To Home, will be his penultimate season at the Gate Theatre. Haydon will continue programming the Gate up until May 2017, with his last season being announced in late 2016. The post of Artistic Director at the Gate Theatre will be advertised shortly. Bad Apples is the new rock musical inspired by the real-life prisoner abuse scandal at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. Bad Apples seeks to answer the simple question: How in God's name did this happen? Two soldiers ended up pregnant by fellow soldier Charles Graner; both women wanted to marry him, competed with each other to win his love, and enthusiastically tortured prisoners together, documenting most of it in pictures that later leaked and shocked the world.
