Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Lincoln Center Festival and Park Avenue Armory to Present Weinberg's THE PASSENGER, July 2014

Nigel Redden, director of the Lincoln Center Festival, and Rebecca Robertson, President and Executive Producer, Park Avenue Armory, today announced that the two organizations will co-present The Passenger, Mieczyslaw Weinberg's uncompromising 1968 opera about the Holocaust, performed by Houston Grand Opera and directed by David Pountney, in its New York premiere performances July 10, 12 and 13 at Lincoln Center Festival 2014. Pountney's production will have its U.S. premiere on January 18, 2014 at Houston Grand Opera.

Artifacts range from an opulent pre-Depression luxury hotel to a flamboyant Old West rail stop to a sprawling mountain resort with a Prohibition speakeasy.

Theatre Development Fund Announces Launch of TKTS 7-DAY FAST PASS to Avoid Long Lines!

At today's TKTS Times Square 40th Anniversary celebration, celebrity guests Harvey Fierstein and Julie Halston announced a new program at Theatre Development Fund's TKTS Booth in Times Square - the TKTS 7-Day Fast Pass - whereby TKTS patrons may return to the iconic discount ticket booth within 7 days of their TKTS purchase and walk up to window #1 with their TKTS ticket stub, thereby avoiding the longer lines at peak hours. Thus, allowing them quicker access to purchase same-day discounts or future-performance full-priced tickets. Earlier in the program, TDF announced that theTKTS' satellite booth at South Street Seaport, which has been closed since Hurricane Sandy, is currently under reconstruction and will be open sometime in July. That Booth serves thousands of theatregoers who work and live in Downtown Manhattan.

Today, June 26, TKTS in Times Square, the same-day discount theatre outlet for Broadway and Off Broadway shows celebrates 40 years in Times Square. Beginning at 11am, there will be a special celebration in honor of TKTS' 40th Anniversary behind the TKTS Booth on Broadway and 47th Street. A proclamation from the City of New York will be presented to Theatre Development Fund (TDF) and accepted on its behalf by 'The Unofficial Mayor of Broadway,' 4-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. (Fierstein most recently wrote the book for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, which won the most Tony Awards of any production this year, including 'Best Musical'). After the presentation, the cast of Forbidden Broadway will perform a special tribute to TKTS written by the show's creator, Gerard Alessandrini.

Producers Lee Dean, Laurence Myers and Joey Parnes announced today that the complete cast of the Broadway premiere of End of the Rainbow, a new play with music, is in place.
