The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced the cast for our upcoming production of Leonard Bernstein's Candide, directed by the 5th's Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong. Starring in the title role is New York actor Stanley Bahorek, who's performed in the national tour of Big River and on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Metropolitan Playhouse Presents DODSWORTH 5/15-6/6

Metropolitan Playhouse, 'theatrical archaeologist extraordinaire' (Backstage), presents a revival of Dodsworth by Sidney Howard, adapted from the novel by Sinclair Lewis. First presented on Broadway in 1934, Dodsworth has not received a professional production in New York since, but will be revived at Metropolitan's home at 220 E 4th Street May 15th through June 6th, 2010.

This year's Tony nominations include a healthy showing for a musical developed last year at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre during its pre-Broadway run: Memphis. A co-production between The 5th and La Jolla Playhouse, this original musical by David Bryan (music and lyrics) and Joe DiPietro (lyrics and book) tells the story of a white DJ whose love of black music helped bring about the birth of rock n' roll.

Jubilee Theatre will conclude its production of One Mo' Time - An Evening at the Lyric 1926, a rousing musical with music that celebrates Black vaudeville of the 1920s on April 25th. Jubilee's production is directed by Tyrone King with musical direction by Joe Rogers. The original production of One Mo' Time played for over three years at the Village Gate Off-Broadway in 1979 before it was brought back to acclaim in the 2002 Broadway season.

Television and film star Zach Quinto is expected to star in the upcoming George Gershwin biopic, produced by DreamWorks and Steven Speilberg, according to published reports. Quinto, star of television's 'Heroes' and the recent JJ Abrams Star Trek remake, will play the famed composer who, during his short life, wrote many vocal and theatrical works, including more than a dozen Broadway shows.
