Vince Martell, lead guitarist from the '60s band Vanilla Fudge, will headline a benefit concert organized by the Riverdale Y to raise funds for Haiti Earthquake Relief on Saturday, May 1, beginning at 9:00 pm. All performers, technical staff, and venue employees are donating their time and efforts in order to send maximum proceeds through the American Jewish World Service to Haiti.

Acclaimed theater auteur David Levine premieres his latest reality-bending project, VENICE SAVED: A SEMINAR, beginning previews March 19th at P.S. 122. For this inquiry into the nature of democracy and the value of 'political theater,' Levine has eliminated the 'audience' and gathered everyone around a seminar table peppered with cast members who may, or may not, be acting. The topic of this seminar is Simone Weil's unfinished 1943 play Venise Sauv?e, an allegory of democracy and its overthrow, presented on the 100th anniversary of Weil's birth.

Orginally scheduled to begin March 21, two additional performances have been added on March 19 & 20. Reprise Theatre Company announced today that 'The Fantasticks' will replace the previously announced production of 'Chess,' May 5-17 at the Freud Playhouse. With music by Harvey Schmidt and book and lyrics by Tom Jones, 'The Fantasticks' is the world's longest-running musical and will be performed in Los Angeles as its current New York revival continues running off-Broadway.
Jason Alexander, artistic director of Reprise, said, 'I am saddened to report the reason why. Our world premiere production of 'Chess' was commissioned and brokered by Gerald Schoenfeld, President of the Shubert Organization. Just before the end of last year, Gerry passed away unexpectedly. Without his support our production of 'Chess' simply is not possible at this time. I am disappointed, both for the loss of this wonderful opportunity and for the loss of an old and good friend.'
