Part "memory play"/ part tribute to Ella, me & ella is both a singer's coming of age story as well as a musical valentine to the First Lady of Song. Directed by Paul Kreppel and Murphy Cross, winners of the Tony Award for JAY JOHNSON: THE TWO AND ONLY, and featuring Andrea Frierson who was a finalist in Star Search and has appeared on Broadway in THE LION KING, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and others, me & ella takes the stage at Downstairs Cabaret at Winton Place, 3450 Winton Place, Brighton-Henrietta, beginning February 6. t was announced today that Joey Parnes Productions and EMURSIVE (Randy Weiner, Arthur Karpati, andJonathan Hochwald, Principals) will bring The Public Theater's production of David Byrne and Alex Timbers' smash hit musical, Here Lies Love, back to The Public Theater's LuEsther Hall (425 Lafayette Street, New York City) for an open-ended commercial run. Under the direction of Alex Timbers,Here Lies Love played a critically raved-about, sold-out run last year at the same space, which was extended by popular demand four times. This new production will begin performances on Monday, March 24, 2014, and will officially open in early April. Here Lies Love was conceived by David Byrne, and features lyrics by Byrne, music by Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. BSO's OrchKids Program Receives $1 Million Donation

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) today announced that Baltimore philanthropists Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker have recently made a $1 million gift to support the continued expansion of the BSO's flagship community engagement program, OrchKids. This new gift is their second at this level, the first made in 2008 to help launch the program. The donation is also a vital lead gift in the BSO's campaign to secure its second century. Key goals in the projected growth of OrchKids include expansion from five to eight Baltimore City Public Schools, with an increase in enrollment from 750 to 1,600 pre-K through 12th grade students. The gift was announced today at noon in the Rotunda at City Hall as part of an event hosted by Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, celebrating the recent accomplishments of the OrchKids program. The Mayor also presented OrchKids with a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of its ability to promote measurable academic and social change. (more...)
