Sir Peter Wright's production of The Nutcracker for the Birmingham Royal Ballet is widely regarded as the best production in country, if not the world, and it is not hard to see why. John McFarlane's lavish storybook designs create a magical world in which Clara takes centre stage. We follow Clara as she defeats King Rat, travels to the Land of Snow and is transformed into the Sugar Plum Fairy, the ballerina of her dreams. Whilst other interpretations of The Nutcracker struggle to maintain a compelling narrative, we share Clara's fear, delight and amazement at every turn. (more...)

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College will team up once again with producer Anton Krilloff present a Russian holiday fairy tale, The Snow Maiden (??????????), on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 4pm. Ticket prices range from $35 to $60 and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the box office at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm). Ingmar Bergman's NORA Begins This Weekend at Cherry Lane Theatre

Ingmar Bergman's NORA -- an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's classic drama A DOLL'S HOUSE -- will be given its English-language New York debut Off-Broadway this fall when Austin Pendleton directs the production at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.), with previews set to begin November 14 prior to an official press opening November 22. The five-week production runs through December 12. NORA is produced by Cherry Lane Theatre in association with La Femme Theatre Productions.  (more...)

Off-Broadway's acclaimed Classic Stage Company today announced plans for its 2016-17 season, led by incoming Artistic Director John Doyle and Managing Director Jeff Griffin. Doyle, a Tony Award winner for Sweeney Todd and the director of Broadway's highly-praised new production of The Color Purple, assumes the artistic leadership of CSC beginning in July, succeeding Brian Kulick, who has led the company since 2003. For CSC, Doyle has directed Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Allegro, and later this season will direct Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt. (more...)
