Free performances will tour City streets, parks and playgrounds throughout the five boroughs through September 14. Last week, BWW reported that Hulu had abandoned its plan to acquire the NBC comedy COMMUNITY. But today, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the series has found a home on Yahoo Screen, and just in time! Sony Pictures Television stated earlier that the actors' contracts were set to expire today, June 30. COMMUNITY will air 13 new episodes beginning this fall. (more...)

Andrea Martin is a two-time Emmy Award winner for the critically acclaimed sketch comedy series SCTV, and is also a two-time Tony Award winner. She won her second and most recent Tony Award last June of 2013 for her performance as Berthe in the Broadway revival of "Pippin" directed by Diane Paulus and her first award was for the musical 'My Favorite Year.' She is currently starring on Broadway at Lincoln Center in "Act One" by James Lapine opposite Tony Shalhoub. She is also filming a new television sitcom "Working The Engels" written by Katie Ford ("Miss Congeniality," "Desperate Housewives") which is now filming in Toronto. Today in 1987, the FIRST Broadway revival of Dreamgirls opened at the Ambassador Theatre, where it ran for 177 performances. Dreamgirls features music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen. Based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and others, the musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams', who become music superstars. The musical opened on December 20, 1981 at the Imperial Theatre, and was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and won six. It was later adapted into a motion picture from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures in 2006. The 1987 cast featured Lillias White as 'Effie.' (more...)

The American Museum of Natural History Announces Next Manhattanhenge Dates, 7/11-12

Four nights a year, the streets of Manhattan's grid become the site for a stunning sunset phenomenon known as Manhattanhenge. During Manhattanhenge, the sun sets in perfect alignment with Manhattan's East-West-numbered streets, creating cinema-worthy photo opportunities. This July, the full sun will be visible on the grid on Friday, July 11, at 8:24 pm and the half sun will be visible on Saturday, July 12, at 8:25 pm. Prime locations to view the phenomenon are large cross streets such as, 14th, 34th, 42nd, 57th, and 79th. For optimal viewing at these locations, participants should arrive a half-hour earlier than the times given. O n July 11, the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium will also be hosting a public program highlighting the history and astronomy of this spectacle. Usdan Center's Three Week Season Still Has Openings
