Happy Birthday David Alan Grier! Grier began his professional career on Broadway as Jackie Robinson in The First, for which he earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and won the Theatre World Award. He then joined the cast of Dreamgirls before going on to star opposite Denzel Washington in A Soldier's Play, for which both actors reprised their roles in the film adaptation titled A Soldier's Story. Recently was seen in David Mamet's Race on Broadway and received his second Tony Award nomination. He is currently starring on Broadway in Porgy and Bess. (more...)

Sundance Institute today announced the acting company, artists-in-residence and creative advisors for the seven projects being developed at its 2013 Theatre Lab, July 8-28 at the Sundance Resort in Utah. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Lab is the centerpiece of the Theatre Program's year-round work and is designed to support both emerging and established artists and to create a place where their original work can be effectively mentored and challenged free from commercial pressure. Grex Group Theatre to Stage Eugene O'Neill's THIRST, 7/27-28

Three people, one raft, and the merciless ocean on all sides. Grex Group Theatre produces Eugene O'Neill's rarely done, 100 year old, one-act play, Thirst, just blocks from where Mr. O'Neill was born in New York City. Three passengers from a sunken ocean liner are stranded on a life raft, afloat in the crisp open waters, among the circling sharks as the sun relentlessly beats down. These people are very different, and they are the same. They want to survive. But at what cost? Thirst, Eugene O'Neill's harrowing play, is a not-to-be-missed drama that will force you to think about human nature and the passion we all have inside. Performances are 3pm and 7pm, July 27-28 at Theatre 54 in New York City. (more...)

SIX DAYS OF BROADWAY Musical Theater Camp Wraps Current Session this Sunday

Enrollment applications are being accepted now for Segerstrom Center's Six Days of Broadway summer musical theater camp, which returns to the Center's campus June 24 through July 7. Students will participate in week-long intensives that feature classes in musical performance, monologue interpretation, audition technique, scene work, dance and more. Tony Award nominee and Broadway/film star Erin Dilly returns to lead the program along with Broadway veterans Stephen Buntrock, Danny Gurwin, Hank Stratton and other guest instructors. (more...)
