by Richard Jay-Alexander - Jun 23, 2015

The Broadway Community worships at the altar of Michael McElroy and, pretty soon, so will the world. The Broadway veteran, with many shows under his belt, founded the Broadway Inspirational Voices in 1994 and, last night, photographer and friend Walter McBride and I were invited to a private home, where an awe-inspiring event transpired. We witnessed the birth of PARLOR NIGHT, something that ladies Di Ana Pisarri and Schele Williams had dreamed of for some time. (more...)

Dorset Theatre Festival to Stage Katie Forgette's SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE JERSEY LILYDorset Theatre Festival to Stage Katie Forgette's SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE JERSEY LILY
by BWW News Desk - Jun 23, 2015

Dorset Theatre Festival will stage Katie Forgette's Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily, a delightfully funny and exciting take on the famous detective story that weaves together threads of history and literature including the great Sherlock Holmes himself, his trusted friend Watson, the sinister Moriarty, the glamorous Lillie Langtry, and even Oscar Wilde. The production will be directed by Margarett Perry and will run from July 9th through the 25th. 'There is a reason that Sherlock is such a popular figure in literature as well as on stage and in film,' says Artistic Director Dina Janis. 'These mysteries are engaging throughout and always very satisfying. This piece in particular is so clever and entertaining.' The Case of the Jersey Lily places literature's favorite genius detective right in the middle of a blackmail scheme that connects the famous actress Lillie Langtry, celebrated playwright Oscar Wilde (just finishing work on his new play, The Importance of Being Forthright), criminal mastermind James Moriarty and Queen Victoria herself. by Patti Murin - Jun 23, 2015

Full disclosure #1: It's possible that I have never been so exhausted and hungover in my entire life. Full disclosure #2: I have definitely never been so happy in my entire life. This past weekend, Colin D. accepted my final rose and we said 'I Do' in the most fantastic wedding celebration that has ever existed. Going back to real life has been a challenge, because all I want to do is relive the magic and talk about it to anyone and everyone that will listen. So it's Lucky for me that 'The Bachelorette' is on tonight, to help ease the transition back into normal, every day life. Except this time, with the best husband in the world by my side :) (more...)

BWW Reviews: High-Energy MOTOWN THE MUSICAL Entertains O.C. with Non-Stop HitsBWW Reviews: High-Energy MOTOWN THE MUSICAL Entertains O.C. with Non-Stop Hits
by Michael L. Quintos - Jun 22, 2015

For nearly three vigorous hours, MOTOWN - THE MUSICAL provides one helluva show. More like a CONCERT rather than your typical book musical, this dazzling, high-octane extravaganza of music and dance is a visual and aural feast that gamely crams in more than 60 hits from the groundbreaking record company's discography. The story---penned by Motown founder Berry Gordy himself---may be its lone weak spot, but there's no denying how fun it is to see and hear this impressive cast of quintuple-threats recreate these greatest hits live on stage. The rousingly entertaining, exuberantly-performed stage spectacular continues at Costa Mesa's Segerstrom Center for the Arts through June 28. (more...)

Nick Dipaolo to Play Ridgefield Playhouse, 7/18Nick Dipaolo to Play Ridgefield Playhouse, 7/18
by BWW News Desk - Jun 18, 2015

In this day of watered down comedy, Nick Di Paolo's brutally honest performances remind us of what great stand up should be: funny, socially relevant and a little bit reckless. As part of the Clark Comedy Series, Nick DiPaolo returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, July 18, 1t 8 p.m. with special guest Kendra Cunningham.  With Boston beginnings, DiPaolo moved to New York where his sarcastic style was welcomed with open arms by New York audiences at such clubs as Catch a Rising Star, Caroline's and The Comedy Cellar. It was clubs like these where he honed his uncompromising point of view, which makes him not only a club favorite, but a true 'comic's comic.'  His range has allowed him to perform on shows as tame as The Tonight Show, and as edgy as HBO's Young Comedians Special, Late Night with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O' Brien. He was twice nominated for an Emmy for his writing on The Chris Rock Show. He has also had three half hour stand up specials of his own on Comedy Central and was one of the stars on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and a stand out on many Comedy Central Roasts. Not limited to stand-up and writing, he has had guest starring roles on Lucky Louie, The Sopranos and many sitcoms, as well as in films including Artie Lange's Beer League.  His strong political opinions and razor wit make him a perfect fit for talk radio as well. He is a favorite on both Howard Stern and Opie and Anthony and now can be heard on “The Nick DiPaolo Podcast” on riotcast.com.  Before you check out the show, visit Steakhouse Cellar Door (439 Main Street, Ridgefield) and receive a free glass of house wine or draft beer and a free dessert with your entrée when tickets are presented.  Media sponsor for this show is 99.1fm WPLR. by BWW News Desk - Jun 18, 2015

Hi there! I'm Eric Jackson and I'm one of the handful of performers that has had the pleasure of being a part of Transcendence Theatre in Sonoma every summer since their first concert in 2011.  My path has taken me from Rochester, Michigan to The University of Michigan and then to NYC for the past 15 years.  But now I'm on a new path.  I accepted the position of Executive Assistant to the Artistic Director here at Transcendence and just recently moved to Wine Country to start a whole new chapter of my life!  On top of that, I am Associate Directing the 1st Concert, Co-Directing the 2nd Concert, and performing in all 4!  It's going to be a busy summer,     but it will all be worth it.  And as you follow this blog, hopefully you will understand the reason why I keep coming back and why I've decided to stay.
