The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles, Orange County and Ventura County theatre for the year 2011. The 43rd Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 19, 2012 at A Noise Within, the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, in its new 33,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art venue in Pasadena, thanks to the generous donation of A Noise Within's management. The theatre is located on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue at 3352 East Foothill Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107. Tickets are $40, and should be reserved in advance from the LADCC's website, at www.ladramacriticscircle.com. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for pre-show hors d'oeuvres (with no-host bar), and the show commences at 7:30 p.m. (more...)

Bellamy has been described as the foremost living interpreter of work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson, and his Penumbra Theatre is proud to have produced more of Wilson's plays than any other theatre in the world. Radio Golf, a co-production with Indiana Repertory Theatre, will begin in the Allen Theatre at PlayhouseSquare on Friday, February 10 and run through Sunday, March 4, 2012. Jacobs Theatre (242 W45th Street), has recouped its entire initial investment of $3.1 million. The Mountaintop stars Samuel L. The first preview will be announced at a later date. The original cast of the 2010 world premiere Playwrights Horizons production (Crystal A. Dickinson, Brendan Griffin, Damon Gupton, Christina Kirk, Annie Parisse, Jeremy Shamos and Frank Wood), currently performing at Center Theater Group's Mark Taper Forum through February 26, is expected to make the move to Broadway. Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun is one of those canonic, American plays that is a regional theater favorite and is almost undisputedly good. This means Hansberry's writing is rarely questioned, and the viability of the show being well-received by audiences also goes without skepticism. However, in Geva Theatre's production, director Robert O'Hara's artistic license with Hansberry's script is close but no cigar. (more...)
