I read a book on demon exorcisms once. It was 2,304 pages long and written all in Latin, but I got the gist of it, naturally. BWW Reviews: RECKLESS by Craig Lucas is Both Ponderous and PointlessBWW Reviews: RECKLESS by Craig Lucas is Both Ponderous and Pointless
by Frank Benge - Nov 24, 2014

Reckless, by Craig Lucas, wants to be a black comedy. The script, written in a cinematographic style, poses some serious problems in staging. For something so paper thin to work, the audience needs to go on the same nightmare downhill sleigh ride as the protagonist. We need to feel as buffeted by the play itself as she does by the events of the play. Unfortunately, the staging of this production is weighed down by numerous lengthy scene changes on what is a minimalistic set. These numerous changes bog the evening down and what should be a barrage of insanity ends up being a few humorous moments. The cartoon craziness this script cries out for never really happens. Bookworks Presents Its November Edition of IT'S ABOUT BOOKSBookworks Presents Its November Edition of IT'S ABOUT BOOKS
by BWW News Desk - Nov 18, 2014

It is all about how an author carefully and purposely beckons each word to each page until those words pull together into a magnificent creation having a life of its own. The book I am reviewing,All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, is one such masterful creation. Don't wait for the paperback, don't wait for the movie, buy the book, now. Buy it as a gift, buy it for yourself, insist that your book club adds it to the list of must reads. Read it when you have the time to savor each and every word that has been so carefully placed. This book puts to shame many of the other books I have read this year. The characters, the story line, the settings, the time periods, the premise and purpose that stand behind the book are knitted together flawlessly, satisfying the reader completely. Every sentence is fraught with beautiful imagery. (more...)
