Alfred Hitchcock's classic spy thriller, The 39 Steps, brilliantly and hilariously recreated as the smash hit Olivier Award Winning Best New Comedy. This blissfully funny show follows the incredible adventures of our handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff-upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women. This wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller features four fearless actors, playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action.
The Huntington Theatre Company continues its 28th season - a season of American Stories - with A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration, a new uplifting holiday event by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive, The Mineola Twins, The Baltimore Waltz). Steppenwolf Associate Artist Jessica Thebus (Intimate Apparel, Dead Man's Cell Phone, Sonia Flew) directs. Andrew Resnick (A Civil War Christmas at Long Wharf Theatre) provides musical direction of beloved holiday music supervised, arranged, and orchestrated by Daryl Waters (Tony and Grammy Award nominee for Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk). In the course of this evening's performance, the following physical objects will appear onstage: a boxing bag, four golf clubs, a newspaper, two small targets, an oversized golf ball plus snake, a bloody towel, a duck mask, a white spider with spots, a watering can, three boulders wrapped in twine, a yellow suit, two imitation row boats, one tray of fruit, one rolling table, six highball glasses, two white pillows, one large roll of plastic tape, a jeweled wristwatch, one package, gift-wrapped, one jeweled container, plus one blank container, three mirrors with numbers painted on the reverse side, two bows and arrows, one duck in a small cage, one stuffed small mouth plug.

The Drama League and its friends held a special cocktail reception for "Mr. Broadway" himself, Stewart F. Lane as he discussed producing for today's theatre. The event was followed by a signing of Mr. Lane's new DVD titled "Let's Put on a Show!" which is an informed and witty guide on producing which covers everything from raising money to creating an audience. Jill Paice (Curtains, The Woman in White, A Little Night Music) recently joined the cast of Alfred Hitchcock's THE 39 STEPS, Broadway's longest running comedy, playing the roles of Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret. Now in its second smash year, the Tony Award-winning quick change comedy version of Hitchcock's classic film thriller is playing at the Helen Hayes Theatre (240 West 44th Street). "How much are you willing to change for the one you love?" is the premise of Bay Street's first Main Stage production of the 2009 Summer Season, the betwitching romantic comedy Bell, Book and Candle. Written by John Van Druten, the play served as the inspiration for the hit television series Betwitched and was also a 1958 film starring Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart.
