Today we are turning back the clock to this very day in 2008 when BILLY ELLIOT: THE MUSICAL opened on Broadway.
North Carolina Theatre (NCT), the region's premier producer of professional Broadway shows, is excited to announce that Raleigh's own Ira David Wood, III has been cast in Billy Elliot alongside talented young Charlotte teen Sam Faulkner in the title role of "Billy." David will play Billy's father. NC Theatre's original production of Billy Elliot will run February 10 - 15, 2015 at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium in the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
THE LAST SHIP - the new musical with music and lyrics by 16-time Grammy Award-winner Sting and book by Tony Award winner John Logan and Pulitzer Prize-winner Brian Yorkey opens tonight, October 26. The Last Ship is directed by Tony Award winner Joe Mantello and choreographed by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Steven Hoggett. NBCUniversal today announced that the company is realigning its live stage division under Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment. Universal Stage Productions (USP), which will continue to be led by Universal Pictures President Jimmy Horowitz, will expand its focus to include all of NBCUniversal properties.
Due to popular demand, American Opera Projects and LivelyWorks have added a second performance of Two Premieres and a Reunion, a special evening of music by composer Conrad Cummings Wednesday September 10th, 2014. The second performance will take place at 9:00 p.m., immediately after the initial 7:30 p.m. performance. Both performances will be held at The National Opera Center, 330 Seventh Avenue, Manhattan.

Today in 2008, Billy Elliot opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 1312 performances. Billy Elliot the Musical is a musical based on the 2000 film Billy Elliot. The music is by Elton John, and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall, who wrote the film's screenplay. The plot revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the UK miners' strike in County Durham, in North Eastern England. It won ten Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards, including, in each case, best musical.
