The ASCAP Foundation honored R&B and pop icon Valerie Simpson with its George M. Cohan Friars Foundation Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Melinda Wagner with The ASCAP Foundation Masters Award at the 2018 ASCAP Foundation Honors tonight. The ceremony took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, in New York City. The ASCAP Foundation 2018 scholarship recipients were also recognized in an evening brimming with talent and inspiration.

Calling all fans of the Algonquin Hotel! On November 17th at 8 pm, Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) will present a very special concert performance of Michael Colby's 'The Algonquin Kid,' his popular memoir of growing up in the legendary hotel. With a singing cast that defines excellence, along with new and revealing stories about Marilyn Monroe Peter Ustinov, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and a collection of stunning Hirschfeld drawings, and props from the Hotel itself, the phrase "quintessential New York evening" comes to mind.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, presents the Off-Broadway premiere of the acclaimed new musical Midnight at The Never Get, with book, music, and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick, co-conceived by Sam Bolen, by arrangement with Visceral Entertainment and Mark Cortale Productions.  Directed by Max Friedman, with choreography by Andrew Palermo, and music direction/arrangements by Adam Podd, the cast will feature Sam Bolen, Jeremy Cohen, and Jon J. In honor of Hollywood's 'tough guy in tap shoes' James Cagney, who would have turned 118 today, producer Riki Kane Larimer (On The Town, Gigi, West End's Memphis) announced the West Coast Premiere of the hit musical CAGNEY.

Fresh from starring in the national tour of 'Cabaret,' Jon Peterson will star in a staged reading of ASCAP Award-winning writer Chip Deffaa's new show 'Irving Berlin: In Person,' 7 pm., Sunday, September 24th.

The nationally regarded Fulton Theatre will present the Pennsylvania Premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical Disney's Newsies, June 6 through July 23. The inspirational Disney's Newsies, based on the real-life Newsboys strike of 1899 and the 1992 film, was the toast of Broadway for more than two years.

Actress/LA theatre inaugurator, Penny Fuller has embarked on a new leg of her career as a cabaret artiste. Ms. Fuller will be bringing her solo musical play 13 THINGS ABOUT ED CARPOLOTTI to the Broad Stage beginning January 11. I had the most delightful opportunity to chat with the vibrant, vivacious Ms. Fuller. She possesses a memory of an elephant, effortlessly listing off names of cast compatriots and retelling intriguing incidents of her theatre highlights.

Cagney, the new hit musical about Hollywood's tough guy in tap shoes,will celebrate its 300th performance this afternoon, December 21, at the Westside Theatre, upstairs. Cagney had its official opening on April 3, 2016 following 21 preview performances.
