Attention Nerds! There's now a theater company in town for us! And I don't mean musical theater Nerds or drama Nerds but good old fashioned Sci-Fi/Fantasy Nerds. Fledgling company The Rogues Gallery has come onto the scene and promises Geek Theater. And their inaugural production, "Shoggoths on the Veldt: A Cthulhu Adventure Comedy" certainly delivers on that promise. But as fun as it was and as much as I long for more geeky fare in general, this production certainly was in need of some tightening, both in pace and in script. (more...)

BWW Column: Oscar Nominations Maintain Status Quo, but I've Still Got Thoughts

Happy holidays movie Nerds! Nominations were announced for the 88th Annual Academy Awards this morning, and while I don't believe that there were any glaring, outrage-inducing snubs, I am going to go through the major categories and share some knee-jerk reactions. As is often the case for those of us that follow movie releases and award shows closely, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences didn't throw too many curveballs in this year's nominations, which means that there are a lot of people that have seen many of the nominees in the major categories. In fact, the Best Picture nominees have pulled in almost $602 million at the domestic box office, a pretty big number, considering half of them were released in the last two months and had to contend with the behemoth that is STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Located at 1680 Kapiolani Boulevard inside Hawaiian Brian's, Saturday, January 16th, 2016. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the show starts at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available at the door for only $10.  Producer Riki Kane Larimer (Fiddler on the Roof, Tappin' Thru Life, On The Town, Gigi)has announced the Off-Broadway transfer of The York Theatre Company's acclaimed production of the new musical, Cagney with book by Peter Colley (The Donnelly) and music & lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern (Fame, First Wives Club).  Cagney received its New York premiere at The York Theatre Company, last spring, where it played a limited five-week sold out engagement.  This new updated, expanded and revised version will begin performances begin on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. for an open-ended engagement at The Westside Theatre - Upstairs (407 West 43rd Street).  Opening Night is set for Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. (more...)

Grammy Nominated Singer-Songwriter Lisa Loeb brings her signature vocal stylings to The Copa Palm Springs for one special performance, December 11 at 8:00 pm. Loeb is a touring artist, author and philanthropist who started her career with the platinum-selling Number 1 hit song "Stay (I Missed You)" from the film Reality Bites. A trailblazing independent artist, Lisa was the first pop musician to have a Number 1 single while not signed to a recording contract. She followed that remarkable feat with the hit singles 'Do You Sleep,' 'I Do' and 'Let's Forget about It " and the albums Cake and Pie and No Fairy Tale, among others.
