The Kean University Department of Theatre's 2014-2015 Season continues with the high-flying musical Peter Pan, opening Friday, February 20 in Kean's Wilkins Theatre. Based on the tremendously popular play by Sir James M. Barrie, Peter Pan will be directed by Department of Theatre faculty member Holly Logue with musical direction by Meg Zervoulis, choreography by Michele Mossay, lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, and music by Morris 'Moose' Charlap. The cast of Kean University students also includes two local children - Joshua Hunt of Cranford and Lucas Luchsinger of Elizabeth - who will share the role of Michael Darling. (more...)

Tony and Emmy Award winner Hal Linden ("Barney Miller," The Rothschilds) leads a cast of Broadway and Globe veterans including Ron Orbach, Robert Dorfman, Eli Gelb, James Shanklin, and Lowell Byers. The Twenty-seventh Man will run February 14 through March 22 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run February 14-18. Theatrical Productions and Broadway Philadelphia announced today that tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of Disney's The Lion King will go on sale to the public on Friday, February 6 at 10:00 a.m. Philadelphia's most eagerly awaited return will once again leap onto the Academy of Music stage on May 20 for a limited engagement of four weeks through June 14.The press opening night is Thursday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. Broadway Philadelphia is presented collaboratively by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Shubert Organization. This tops the previous record of $1,399,577 held by The Lion King in September, 2013. PHANTOM then broke its own record during the second week of their engagement, grossing $1,515,155 for the week ending February 15, 2015. Gina D'Arco and Taylor Novak will lead the cast of William Inge's Picnic, in a revival of the classic play helmed by Jeffrey Ellis, for Nashville's Circle Players, which this season celebrates its 65th year of bringing live theater to audiences throughout Middle Tennessee. Picnic will run March 27 through April 4, and will be performed at the theater at Hillsboro High School. (more...)

Hennepin Theatre Trust today revealed its stellar 2015-2016 Broadway on Hennepin Season, featuring Broadway's hottest Tony Award-winning shows, seven Minnesota premieres and returning favorites. Making their local debuts are A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, winner of four 2014 Tony Awards including Best Musical; Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, the 2014 Tony Award-winning inspiring true story, and The Bridges of Madison County, the romantic 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Score and Best Orchestrations. CHICAGO – The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago presents four World Premieres in the fifth annual “Winning Works” program, the culmination of the 2015 Choreographers of Color Awards. Three of the new works come from this year's Award winners Jennifer Archibald, Abdul Latif and Stephanie Martinez. The fourth piece is a new workby Joffrey Academy Artistic Director Alexei Kremnev called Windy Sand with original music by Karen LeFrak. All four works are performed by dancers from the Joffrey Studio Company and the Joffrey Academy Trainee Program. The Joffrey Academy of Dance's “Winning Works” program is presented at a new venue in 2015, the Edlis Neeson Theater at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Avenue, over three performances: Saturday, March 7 at 3 pm and 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 8 at 3 pm. (more...)
