Durham, N.C. - Along with Theatre in the Park, Playmakers Repertory Company, Durham Arts Council and ABC 11, DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center, is thrilled to present the culmination of this year's Triangle Rising Star program announced from a record number of applicants. The Triangle Rising Star Live Showcase and Awards show will take place at DPAC on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. starring student finalists from high school musical productions in the Triangle region and beyond. Triangle Rising Star is a non-profit education initiative created in 2011 to celebrate high school theater students who participate and excel with wide -ranging talents in their musical productions. Triangle Rising Star is a regional qualifying program for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA). (more...)

Serving as a cultural landmark in Atlanta for more than 35 years, the Center for Puppetry Arts is an inspiration to all ages through the art and traditions of puppetry. As the highly anticipated expansion and renovation project comes to fruition, the Center is unveiling previously unreleased details on its Global Collection gallery in their new permanent museum exhibition, Worlds of Puppetry. The gallery will be comprised of more than 170 puppets and artifacts, spanning five continents and showcasing various cultures across the world. Slated to open in fall 2015, the completed Museum will also include the Jim Henson Collection gallery, which will be the nation's most comprehensive exhibit of Jim Henson's artifacts. (more...)

In a slew of recent event cancellations, the next installment of the BROADWAY SINGS concert series is relocating due to a recent reception hosted by the venue's owners for Republican Presidential candidate and vocal anti-gay politician Ted Cruz. Last week, it was revealed that Ian Reisner and Mati Weiderpass, owners of The OUT Hotel, had hosted Senator Cruz at their Manhattan penthouse for a "dinner and 'fireside chat,'" as reported by the New York Times. Broadway Sings Bruno Mars, originally scheduled to take place at 8:30 PM on May 17th at 42West in The OUT Hotel, will now take place at The Cutting Room, at the same time and date.
