Discussing her time spent in many of the aforementioned shows as well as her experiences inhabiting the wildly different characters within each, Gonzalez shares her infectious enthusiasm for performance and her appreciation for having participated in such landmark shows. Most importantly, Gonzalez shares stories from the heated rehearsal rooms backstage at the 24-Hour Musicals celebration and what participating in the event that would form the basis for ONE NIGHT STAND, a documentary film being released in select cities this Wednesday, January 30. WICKED Announces Lottery for $25 Seats at Broward County PAC, Today

A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to Broward Center for the Performing Arts with performances from January 30th to February 17th. Two and one-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at the Broward Center box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person. Lottery participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets. (more...)

The Canadian Opera Company unveiled its 2013/2014 season today at a press conference at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The company's 64th season stars the world's best singers, conductors, directors and designers in a performance year with seven operas, including three COC premieres and three new COC productions. The COC presents Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème with a new production featuring some of Canada's brightest stars; COC Music Director Johannes Debus makes his Benjamin Britten debut when he conducts Peter Grimes with a production starring acclaimed Canadian tenor Ben Heppner in the iconic title role; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte with a new COC production by renowned film and theatre director Atom Egoyan with Debus conducting; Giuseppe Verdi's Un ballo in maschera starring great Canadian diva Adrianne Pieczonka in a role debut; George Frideric Handel's Hercules with a COC premiere and new COC production by world-renowned director Peter Sellars with a star-studded cast; Gaetano Donizetti's Roberto Devereux with a COC premiere starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in a role debut; and Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte with a COC premiere featuring Debus in another conducting debut and the world's pre-eminent bass Ferruccio Furlanetto in the title role. Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) announced today a call for submissions for its second annual Frontiers new works showcase to be held during the 2014 Fort Worth Opera Festival. A pioneering leader in the production of contemporary opera, FWOpera launched Frontiers in the 2012-2013 season. Mark Glanville and Alexander Knapp Release Reinvented Shubert Cycle with DI SHEYNE MILNERIN

Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin receives a brilliant homage and reinvention with Di Sheyne Milnerin, an originally-devised cycle of twenty songs from the Yiddish repertoire forged into a narrative cycle. Bass-baritone Mark Glanville and pianist Alexander Knapp (also arranger and composer) perform a wonderful variety of Yiddish songs, including arrangements of many well-loved traditional melodies. As in Schubert's original, Di Sheyne Milnerin follows a compelling dramatic trajectory, telling a heart-wrenching tale of unrequited love. The recording follows the success of the duo's widely-performed, Holocaust-focused program and recording, A Yiddish Winterreise. The Nimbus Records release is available now from Allegro Classical. Broadway Sessions is described as an evening of musical performances, games, comedy and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created/hosted by Ben Cameron (Broadway's Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical direction by Joshua Stephen Kartes.
