This comedy goes behind the scenes and then in front of the cameras as it follows five fascinating contestants: a fidgety Vietnam veteran; a know-it-all senator's assistant; a cocky young filmmaker; a dizzy housewife/author; and a bubbly senior citizen—from the time they meet backstage at a popular game show until one of them wins the grand prize. Who wins the big money is one of Game Show's several compelling subplots. Another is the possibility of a rekindled romance between one of the contestants and the show's production assistant. The American Theatre Wing (William Ivey Long, Chair; Heather Hitchens, Executive Director) announced today that its annual gala, held last night at the Plaza Hotel, was the most successful in the organization's history, raising nearly $700,000 (besting the previous record, which was set in 2012, by approximately $100,000). All proceeds from the evening will benefit the education and outreach programs of the American Theatre Wing, which include SpringboardNYC, the Theatre Intern Group, the National Theatre Company Grants and the Jonathan Larson Grants, and will also support free access for students, aspiring professionals, and the general public to programming on AmericanTheatreWing.org, including the long running television show "Working in the Theatre."
Irvine Barclay Theatre today announced an engagement of Potted Potter, the unauthorized Harry Experience, a parody by Dan and Jeff, for four performances only, Thursday, November 14-Saturday, November 16, 2013. For their 2013-2014 season American Classics brings three "firsts" to their programming. For the first time American Classics will present a guest performer in their own concert, acclaimed entertainer John O'Neil in his popular salute to Danny Kaye, 'So Kaye, a one man "tongue-twisting tour-de force" showcasing songs, stories and monologues culled from Kaye's illustrious career. 'So Kaye was nominated for the prestigious IRNE award in 2001; since that time O'Neil has performed the show up and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida. "Adding John O'Neil and 'So Kaye to our season is exciting for us. John has appeared with us in the past, but we are delighted to be able to showcase him in one of his most popular shows," says Producing Director Benjamin Sears, who notes, "this is Kaye's centenary year, so it's a perfect time to feature John in an American Classics season."
