Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre will open its 2013-14 season withMaster Class, Terrence McNally's stage biography of legendary opera diva Maria Callas. Today in 2011, the first Broadway revival of Master Clas opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, where it ran for 67 performances. Master Class is a play by Terrence McNally, which opened on Broadway on November 15, 1995 at the John Golden Theatre, where it ran for 598 performances. The original cast included Zoe Caldwell, Audra McDonald, Karen Kay Cody, David Loud, and Jay Hunter Morris. Caldwell and McDonald won Tony Awards for their performances in 1996. Tyne Daly starred as Callas in a summer 2011 revival of the play at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

The Nordic Naturals Lofoten Masters, the world's northernmost surf competition, will host up to 100 international surfers this year from October 10-13, with a Norwegian surf championship as an added offering. The Lofoten Masters will be held in two locations of the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway: the famous Unstad Bay with world class waves located at 68 degrees North in the Atlantic Ocean, and the city of Flakstad, located near the southern end of the Lofoten archipelago.

Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the American Film Institute's Board of Trustees, announced today the Board's decision to honor Mel Brooks with the 41st AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. The award will be presented to Brooks at a gala tribute on Thursday, June 6, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA.
