?Global box-office powerhouse Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, star of the upcoming TNTseries Wake Up Call, is set to ring in the holidays as host of TNT's annual music spectacular Christmas in Washington.
So .... this is sort of a 'mash-up' of mediums and a fun 'take' on a traditional Hanukkah song, bolstered by the additional creative forces of Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman. It also boasts the talents of Harvey Fierstein, Jackie Hoffman, Peter Matthew Smith, Shoshana Bean, Clarke Thorell, Jenn Gambatese, Michael Longoria, Rashad Naylor, Tracy Jai Edwards, Chester Gregory II, Dick Latessa and others from the Broadway cast of HAIRSPRAY. The year was 2003, and HAIRSPRAY, pretty much, owned Broadway.

I talk to Rahul Varma, Canadian playwright and Artistic Director of Teesri Duniya Theatre. We discuss his play BHOPAL, now for a limited time at Houston's own Shunya Theatre. He talks critiquing India, critiquing Canada and spinning the messy straw of life into first words on a page, and then people on the stage.
Broadway's loss is definitely Long Beach's gain now that the big, bright, and buoyant new musical BIG FISH is making a splash as the season opener for Musical Theatre West's 62nd season. Filled to the brim with heart, emotional heft, and colorful storytelling, this slightly flawed but charmingly imaginative new musical wraps up its final remaining West Coast premiere performances at the Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts in Long Beach through November 16. My immediate recommendation? Definitely experience this while you can.
In 2003, she sang "I Saw Three Ships" on BROADWAY'S GREATEST GIFTS: CAROLS FOR A CURE, VOLUME V, and left her fans longing for a Christmas/holiday album. Finally, in 2014 our holiday wishes came true when Warner Brother's Records released her mirthfully charming HOLIDAY WISHES.

William Shakespeare's ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA opened on Thursday night at Stratford Festival's Tom Patterson Theatre. Last performed at the festival in 2003, this production stars Geraint Wyn Davies and Yanna McIntosh as the famed Roman General and Queen of Egypt, respectively. From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.
