Hamilton Joins CalArts Faculty

Dean Travis Preston is pleased to announce that acclaimed actress Lisa Gay Hamilton is joining the faculty of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) School of Theater beginning in the fall semester 2010. Recognized as one of the outstanding actors of her generation, Ms. Hamilton has a distinguished career on stage, screen, and television--currently playing the role of Melissa in the comedy-drama television series Men of a Certain Age . She will be teaching in the Acting Program.
Patti LaBelle Joins FELA! Sept. 14 for Limited Run

As BroadwayWorld previously speculated, producers Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter, Will & Jada Pinkett Smith, Ruth & Stephen Hendel and Roy Gabay will welcome Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum recording artist Patti LaBelle to the cast of the hit Award-winning Broadway musical Fela! on Tuesday, September 14, when she takes over the role of Fela's mother (Funmilayo Anikulapo-Kuti) through Sunday, January 2, 2011, when the show will play its final scheduled performance. Tony Award-winner Lillias White (who received a 2010 Tony Nomination for her performance in this production) will play her final performance on September 12. Fela! received three 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Choreography, Best Costume Design and Best Sound Design. It is currently playing at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre (230 West 49th Street) where it opened to rave reviews on November 23.

New Village Arts Theatre and Moonlight Cultural Foundation are teaming up to bring Shakespeare in the Park back to North County San Diego. Shakespeare's romantic comedy AS YOU LIKE IT will be set in 1969 New Orleans, with the Forest of Arden located in the bayou outside of the city.

Producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that Tony Award-winners James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave will return to the New York stage this Fall to star opposite one another in the Broadway Premiere of Alfred Uhry‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy. Directed by David Esbjornson (The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia?), Driving Miss Daisy will begin performances on October 7, 2010, at the John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), with an official opening on Monday, October 25, 2010.
