The Playhouse has kicked off its 2017 season with a month of music celebrating genres ranging from rock to country, and everything in between.  Continuing with this music marathon, The Music of the Rat Pack, a Music on the Rock special featuring timeless music from the golden age of American standards, will run from March 9th through the 19th at The Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown on Main Street in Hendersonville.  

The Josephine S. Leiser Opera Center and Steinway Piano Gallery Miami present the season's third pair of performances in the free concert series, 'SongFest Recital Series.' The program will be heard at Steinway Piano Gallery Miami in Coral Gables on Saturday, March 4, at 7:30 pm and at the Leiser Center in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, March 5 at 6:00 pm.

Remember when June fell for Johnny, and Loretta was just a coal miner's daughter?  Well, Flat Rock Playhouse sure does, and the first Main Stage show of their 2017 season is reminiscent of just that. 

Hot off the heels of its critically acclaimed revival of Fiorello!, which was named a Critic's Pick by The New York Times, Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) and Kate Maguire (Artistic Director/CEO) have announced BTG's 2017 Summer Theatre Season.

Following a record-breaking 2016-17 season,Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced last night the eight ambitious productions that will comprise the lineup for its 2017-2018 season. Highlights include the Peninsula premiere of the unforgettable musical, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME; Larry Shue's award-winning comedy, THE FOREIGNER; the hit thriller, THE WOMAN IN BLACK; everyone's favorite musical,ANNIE; the Tony Award-winning play, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER; the award-winning drama, THE ELEPHANT MAN; the national premiere of WHEN THAT I WAS…; and the raucous musical, THE FULL MONTY.  All performances will be held at Hillbarn Theatre, (1285 East Hillsdale Blvd. Foster City). Two-time Tony Award-winning Goodspeed Musicals has assembled six exciting teams - three led by prominent women directors - to helm the diverse productions planned this season: a tap-happy musical comedy, a beloved classic, a completely reinvented musical from some of the finest creative minds in musical theatre, two bold new musicals, and a holiday show for all ages.

Beginning Friday, January 20, HCPS high school theatre students and teachers will team up with Flat Rock Playhouse artists to write, direct, and perform four original 10-minute plays.  Four writing teams made up of one Flat Rock Playhouse mentor and four student writers representing each high school will convene Friday at 4:30pm.  By 10:30pm Friday, each writing team will have written one 10-minute play.  The scripts will be sent to one of the four high school theatre teachers, serving as directors, who will make preparations for rehearsals beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday, January 21.

The Flat Rock Playhouse 2016 season is celebrating the holiday season with a brand new Music on the Rock featuring classic carols that will transport you and your family to a winter wonderland not at the North Pole, but in the rolling green hills of Ireland. A Celtic Christmas will run from December 1st though the 18th at The Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown on Main Street in Hendersonville.

Continuing the fall season, the production will run from 13th October through 30th October at the Clive and Nina Allen Mainstage in the village rock of Flat Rock.

Great Scott! It's that time of year! The Flat Rock Playhouse will present its annual Dark Night Revue fundraiser, but this time with a blast from the past. On August 15, the Supporting Players Guild of Flat Rock Playhouse will present Dark Night Revue: Let's Rock Back to the Future!

If you've seen the Maysles brother's documentaries GREY GARDENS and THE BEALES OF GREY GARDENS (which are actually collaborative efforts between David & Albert Maysles,Ellen Hovde, Muffie Mayer & Susan Froemke) then you have to see Max and Louie Productions' brilliant staging of the musical based upon these larger than life figures. If you haven't see either, then you desperately need to. Seriously, they're on HULU, watch them! Eavesdropping on Edith Bouvier Beale (big Edie) and Edie Beale (little Edie) in these films is an immersive experience, filled with snippets of songs, stories of missed opportunities and lost loves, a dilapidated estate, lot of cats, and more than one raccoon. Their love for one another is, somehow, crystalline clear, but lying beneath layers of scars that a life unfulfilled can produce. The musical tells it all, with a one act flashback to 1941 that fills in the blanks (book by Doug Wright) that led years later to their seclusion in squalor. This is masterfully achieved by the combined efforts of an exceptional cast and expert direction. I'll say it more than you once; you must see GREY GARDENS.
