At its annual gala event, Celebrate Colburn, the Colburn School will honor renowned conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and acclaimed architect Frank Gehry with the Richard D. Colburn award, for their exemplary achievements and contributions to the worlds of classical music and the performing arts in Los Angeles and throughout the world. Celebrate Colburn takes place at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at 7 p.m., followed by a post-performance dinner at a location to be announced.

Tony Award nominees Terrance Mann (Pippin) and Douglas Sills (War Paint, The Scarlet Pimpernel) will join some of Broadway's biggest and brightest names lighting the stage in the all-star gala concert event, Broadway: A Jewish American Legacy, which will be presented by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 7pm in the Edmond J. Safra Theatre at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (36 Battery Place).

The critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe production of Farinelli and the King, starring three-time Tony Award-winner (Twelfth Night, Jerusalem, Boeing-Boeing) and Academy Award-winner (Bridge of Spies) Mark Rylance, begins tonight, December 5, 2017 in advance of an opening night on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Broadway's Belasco Theatre (111 West 44th Street).

The critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe production of Farinelli and the King, starring three-time Tony Award-winner (Twelfth Night, Jerusalem, Boeing-Boeing) and Academy Award-winner (Bridge of Spies) Mark Rylance, opens tonight, December 17, 2017 at Broadway's Belasco Theatre (111 West 44th Street). Under the baton of Jaime Laredo, the New York String Orchestra, an ensemble of young players from around the world who come together each year for a seminar of rehearsals and performance preparation, will give its two annual concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage in late December. For more than 40 years, the orchestra has celebrated joyous music-making in concert on Christmas Eve. This year, on Sunday, December 24 at 7:00 p.m., the orchestra is joined by violinist Pamela Frank, who was once a student of Mr. Laredo, for Mozart's Sinfonia concertante on a program that also includes Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor for Two Violins, Strings, and Continuo from L'estro armonico as well as Haydn's Drumroll Symphony. On Thursday, December 28 at 8:00 p.m., pianist Richard Goode is featured in Mozart's dramatic Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor. Also on the program is Gabriela Lena Frank's work Eleg a Andina inspired by Peruvian pan pipes and Mendelssohn's vibrant Scottish Symphony.

Zubin Mehta returns to Carnegie Hall with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) this fall, following a recent announcement that he will be retiring from his post as Music Director of the IPO in 2019 after 50 years in the position. Three back-to-back concerts in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage celebrate his legacy and his extraordinary achievements as the Orchestra's Music Director for Life.

The New York Philharmonic will present Bernstein's Philharmonic: A Centennial Festival, October 25-November 14, 2017,celebrating the former Philharmonic Music Director and Laureate Conductor on the centennial of his birth. The festival - which is part of the worldwide salute to the legacy of the renowned composer, conductor, pianist, and educator - will center on Bernstein's symphonic cycle, conducted by Alan Gilbert and Leonard Slatkin, complemented by other Bernstein works as well as by music by composers he admired and championed. In addition, the Philharmonic will present a Young People's Concert - the series that Bernstein famously brought to national attention through the television broadcasts - titled Inspirations and Tributes: "Celebrating Leonard Bernstein," conducted by Leonard Slatkin and featuring pianist Makoto Ozone on November 11. A number of other events - ranging from a marathon of Bernstein's Mahler recordings to a partnership with Harvard and University of Michigan to explore Bernstein as an educator and conductor - complement the concerts throughout the centennial season. Bernstein served as the Philharmonic's Music Director from 1958 to 1969, when he was named Laureate Conductor, a title he held until his death in 1990.

Producers Sonia Friedman, Shakespeare's Globe and Paula Marie Blackare have announced complete casting for the critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe production of Farinelli and the King, starring three-time Tony Award-winner (Twelfth Night, Jerusalem, Boeing-Boeing) and Academy Award-winner (Bridge of Spies) Mark Rylance.

Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He took piano lessons as a boy and attended the Garrison and Boston Latin Schools. At Harvard University, he studied with Walter Piston, Edward Burlingame-Hill, and A. Tillman Merritt, among others. Before graduating in 1939, he made an unofficial conducting debut with his own incidental music to 'The Birds,' and directed and performed in Marc Blitzstein's 'The Cradle Will Rock.' Then at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he studied piano with Isabella Vengerova, conducting with Fritz Reiner, and orchestration with Randall Thompson. 

BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival is pleased to present a free performance by the world-renowned and ever-creative dance company, Pilobolus, on Thursday, July 6. The performance will take place at the Prospect Park Bandshell (9th St. & Prospect Park West), is free to the public (with a suggested $5 contribution at the gate) and begins at 8:00 P.M.

In this taut 2013 theatrical adaptation of Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's award winning-book, the apartheid regime's most notorious assassin and head of its death squad, Eugene de Kock (played by Matthew Marsh), sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela (played Noma Dumezweni) in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997. Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud.
