"A Woman of No Importance" premiered in 1893 in London's Haymarket Theatre. As with many of Wilde's plays, it satirizes English upper class society and features many witty, memorable and highly quotable lines, such as "Men marry because they are tired; women because they are curious. Both are disappointed;" and "Nothing succeeds like excess." Please note: This play contains adult language and themes.

Greece's most prominent film director of the post-1968 era, Theo Angelopoulos (1935–2012) was a master cinema stylist. His investigations into history and politics, tyranny and resistance, and spiritual anomie and emotional devastation place him on equal footing with filmmakers like Andrei Tarkovsky, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Wim Wenders. Today, at a time when Greece has struggled with impending economic collapse, and as the country's refugee crisis has worsened, with displaced populations fleeing war in the Middle East and massing on its borders, the themes of Angelopoulos's cinema are pressing once again. Museum of the Moving Image will present Eternity and History: The Cinema of Theo Angelopoulos, a complete retrospective of the director's career—the first in the United States in 25 years—from July 8 through 24, 2016. The retrospective will also be presented at the Harvard Film Archive in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from July 15 through August 22. The presentation of the retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image was made possible with support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce.

Welsh song stylist Iris Williams will make a rare West Coast appearance on Wed., April 13 at 8:30 PM at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood, performing her acclaimed show entitled 'I Wish You Love,' featuring classic American standards by such composers as Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, Burton Lane, and others. Maestro Christopher Seaman leads the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) in a Sunday afternoon of French Romance featuring popular masterworks by French composers Saint-Saens and Franck, and the HSO debut of violinist Tessa Lark on March 20 at 4 pm. The winner of the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Award, Lark will perform the Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No.3 in B Minor. Lark, who is praised by critics and audiences alike for her astounding range of sounds, technical agility and musical elegance, was named the Silver Medalist of the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, making her the highest-ranked American-born winner in the Competition's history. To add an international twist, the HSO's French Romance program opens with a masterwork from across the English Channel, Britten's Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell - better known as the 'Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.' Rehearsals started this week at The 5th Avenue Theatre for the exultant classic musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, the iconic show sweeping Seattle for the holidays. Boasting such beloved songs as 'Do Re Mi,' 'My Favorite Things,' 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen,' and 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain,' this production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music will be presented as only The 5th can do, complete with a sensational live orchestra, stunning costumes, and incredible sets. Under the direction of David Bennett and with choreography by Trina Mills and music direction by Kat Sherrell, this musical will feature an exuberant all-local cast of fresh faces and favorite performers that includes Anne Allgood as the Mother Abbess, joining the previously announced David Pichette as Max Detweiler and Jessica Skerritt as the Baroness Elsa Schraeder, with Hans Altwies as Captain Georg von Trapp and Kirsten deLohr Helland as Maria.
