Camp Broadway Comes to San Antonio for the First Time; Registration Deadline 7/15

Camp Broadway, a summer camp for aspiring artists and theater fans, is coming to San Antonio August 4-8 and theater-loving children ages 10-17 are invited to take their turn in the spotlight. Las Casas Foundation, known for its dedication to supporting the performing arts through education, is hosting the opportunity for young aspiring performers and helping them pursue their dreams by participating in this unique camp that allows young fans to train with Broadway professionals.

Camp Broadway, Broadway's Original Summer Camp, enables theater-loving children ages 10-17 to develop their confidence, character and presentation skills through ensemble performance. The program immerses participants in an authentic Broadway rehearsal process that allows campers to be successful regardless of experience level. Over the last 18 years, more than 20,000 children from around the world have learned to step into the lime light thanks to these summer camps, and many of the participants have been featured in many special events including The New York Pops Spring Gala at Carnegie Hall and the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The registration deadline is July 15, 2014. The San Antonio program is limited to 100 students, so early registration is encouraged. Las Casas Foundation is offering need-based scholarships to the program. Details and applications are available online at www.campbroadway.com.

Inspired by Broadway's cherished works and steeped in its grand traditions, Camp Broadway is designed to build confidence, inspire creative expression and instill well-being in both aspiring artists and future audiences. The program is designed for theater-loving kids who wish to experience Broadway like a true professional. Camp Broadway's culture is collaborative, trustworthy and service-focused. The management team, creative staff and training faculty are experienced, knowledgeable professionals who have worked in all aspects of the legitimate theater -- on-stage, backstage and in producing or production offices. By utilizing the expertise and experience of genuine Broadway artists, this innovative summer camp allows campers a behind the scenes experience as to what it's like to be on the stages in New York City.

Camp Broadway Details:

After a week of training, the program culminates in a special on-stage performance for family and friends. Camp Broadway San Antonio will take the stage at the historic Charline McCombs Empire Theatre. The week-long Camp Broadway program includes:

  • Five days (40 hours) of instruction in singing, acting and dancing by trained Broadway professionals
  • Master classes with Broadway artists
  • Q&A sessions with industry professionals
  • Backstage seminar with a production crew
  • Post-show Q&A with the cast
  • Official Camp Broadway T-shirts
  • Official Cast of Characters headshot
  • Healthy lunches, snacks and water
  • Complimentary admission to the Family Finale

Young performers of all skill levels are invited to join in on the fun as no prior experience is necessary. Campers will arrive in San Antonio on Sunday, August 3 and attend classes Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 8, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. The cost of the camp is $600, which includes everything detailed above. Overnight accommodations are not included in the registration price.
