Premiere of a major new chamber opera by Allen Shearer, libretto by Claudia Stevens. MIDDLEMARCH IN SPRING brings George Eliot’s towering novel to the opera stage, evoking a spring of passionate love and political upheaval. The visually rich two-hour production with set by Matthew Antaky features six unforgettable characters from the novel. Leading singers Sara Duchovnay, Daniel Curran, Eugene Brancoveanu and Philip Skinner are directed by Philip Lowery. Jonathan Khuner conducts a chamber orchestra that even joins the action in one outrageous scene.
