Obsessions engulf us from all sides: worrying, afflicting, haunting us. Fears and fascinations, suspicion and jealousy, the spectres of the past and forebodings. Art responds to them, expresses, stimulates, warns of, and sometimes assuages them. So does ballet and dance theatre.
The Polish National Ballet does not lag behind, being sensitive to history (Kurt Weill, And the Rain Will Pass...) and to contemporary times (Echoes of Time, Cain and Abel, Persona, Love and Fear). Obsession is
an evening that continues this trend. We will show Emil Weso?owski’s long-unseen Returning Waves from 1997 to the music of the symphonic poem by Mieczys?aw Kar?owicz. Krzysztof Pastor will prepare a new choreographic work, seeking inspiration in the music of Franz Schubert.
Finally, there will be a reunion with Pastor’s emotionally charged Moving Rooms to the music of Schnittke and Górecki. Familiar from the Echoes of Time show, this time it will give the audience a unique opportunity to savour the expressive choreography from close up, the venue being the Chamber Stage in the M?ynarski Hall.
