The three one-act comedies that comprise Relatively Speaking are said to be connected by their common theme of finding humor blossoming from the family tree.  But really, don't be bothered with any themes or messages in this one.  All that matters is that playwrights Ethan Coen, Elaine May and Woody Allen, director John Turturro and a company loaded with top-notch comedy actors have whipped up a solid evening of laughs that just gets funnier and funnier as the night goes on.

Fountain House, an internationally recognized organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental illness, last night hosted a staged reading of Daughter of the Queen of Sheba, headlining celebrated actresses Joan Allen and Lauren Ambrose, with appearances by noted actor and screenwriter Dan Futterman and theatre, film and television actor David AaRon Baker. The one-night-only performance, based upon the acclaimed memoir by NPR'sJacki Lyden that recounts her experience growing up with a colorful and dramatic mother living with manic depression, drew a full house to the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, located at 68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues in New York City. Lyden served as Narrator of the performance, which employed slides to illustrate the action. The evening benefitted Fountain House, with support from NPR. Check out a photo from the event below!

The Town Hall's Seventh Annual Broadway Cabaret Festival continues with Elaine Stritch at The Town Hall on Saturday, October 22nd at 8pm and A Tribute to Judy Garland and The Art of American Dance on Friday, October 28th at 8pm. The festival is created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel and is presented in a new format of three consecutive weeks. (Broadway Originals! took place on Sunday, October 16th).

Feinstein's at Loews Regency is now presenting the Tony Award winning theater icon Betty Buckley in an exclusive four week run of the new show 'Ah Men! The Boys of Broadway.' In the show, Buckley performs men's songs from Broadway shows that she has always wanted to sing, including numbers from Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, Pippin, Mame and La Cage Aux Folles. She is joined by Christian Jacob on piano, Peter Barshay on bass and Anthony Pinciotti on drums. The show runs through October 29 at Feinstein's. BroadwayWorld was on hand for a recent show and spoke with Buckley about all things men and how it feels to perform their material, the future of the show, and what her not-yet-performed female repertoire wish list looks like. The Town Hall, New York City's landmark theatre and concert venue (123 West 43rd Street), honored two influential women: Judith Jamison, Artistic Director Emerita of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and Dr. Joyce F. Brown, President of the Fashion Institute of Technology. They received The Town Hall's ‘Friend of the Arts' Award on Sunday, October 16th, 2011. The award is presented annually to individuals in recognition and appreciation for their abiding interest in the development, enrichment and support of the arts.
