A British Invasion: Stars Cross the Pond to Light Up Broadway This Fall!
by Nicole Rosky
- Oct 25, 2015
'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway. An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.
It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon.
This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers. We're getting some complete British imports in shows like A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and KING CHARLES III. Below, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on this season's British imports.
Seaside Art Gallery Announces the Pen & Paintbrush Event, November 7th, 2015
by Robert Diamond
- Oct 11, 2015
Seaside Art Gallery presents a sensational day of art and intrigue at the Pen & Paintbrush Event on November 7th, 2015 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Visitors can explore the visual arts with fine artist Debra Keirce and watch her transform still life paintings with playful surrealism. Visitors will also meet artist-author Kay Kerr who will be signing Croatoan's Memoirs, her award winning children's book about the Corolla wild horses.
Visitors will see Debra Keirce demonstrate how she creates her award winning masterpiece paintings. Debra will paint and discuss her techniques, solving composition problems and color palette. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions and learn about the secrets of creating a high quality painting.
Debra says, 'So often, I feel like the art I am painting is infused with a personal message. I found that people often like to imagine their own stories before they hear mine...I do want to share that my art is chock full of how blessed I'm feeling to be living the dreams I've accumulated over a lifetime.'
The Pen & Paintbrush Event features brand new paintings from the Virginia-based, award-winning artist.
Debra is originally from Detroit, MI, and now calls northern Virginia home. She has a degree and career in biochemical engineering. In 1997, she was able to leave the corporate engineering world to focus on raising her three children and growing her art commission business. Debra began painting daily and participating in local art fairs. By 2010, with children in high school and a growing desire to paint her own visions, Debra focused on entering art exhibitions in galleries and museums.
Debra's works of art are collected internationally, and she is a signature member of several prestigious art associations including Miniature Artists of America, Art Renewal Center, World Federation of Miniaturists, and Hilliard Society of Wells England, among others.
Visitors will also meet artist-author Kay Kerr who will be signing Croatoan's Memoirs, her award winning children's book about the Corolla wild horses. Colorfully illustrated by Kerr, an artist and equestrienne, the book tells the authentic story of the Banker Colonial Spanish Mustangs through the eyes of Croatoan, a famous stallion that was 'King' of a herd of horses that roam the beaches.
Kay says, 'I'm passionate about these beautiful animals and telling their story for future generations to enjoy!' Each page of the book is beautifully illustrated with Kay's acrylic paintings. She studied under the famous artist Barclay Sheaks.
Watch live painting demonstrations by fine artist Debra Keirce, and meet author-artist Kay Kerr as she signs her new award winning children's book, at the Pen & Paintbrush Event at Seaside Art Gallery on Saturday November 7th, 2015 in Nags Head, NC.
