Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma announce Writers Theatre's opener to its 2014/15 season: the Midwest Premiere of Isaac's Eye by Lucas Hnath, directed by Artistic Director Michael Halberstam. The show runs September 2 - December 7, 2014 at Books on Vernon, 664 Vernon Ave Ave, Glencoe. The Press Openings are Wednesday, September 10, 2014 and Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 7:30pm.

Gables Grove Productions Inc. (GGP) has announced the expansion of two of their successful original Carnival Cruise Lines family entertainment experiences. Towel Animal Theater, which launched in 2012 and is now in production on 12 Carnival ships, will be produced on most of the fleet - 22 ships-- by the end of 2015. Seuss-a-Palooza Storytime and Parade, which made its premiere in February 2014 and is now on four ships, has inked a deal to be on the entire fleet - 24 ships - by the end of 2015.

Chromolume Theatre has announced Bird Lives! as its next production, opening on Friday, August 15 at 8pm. Written by Willard Manus and directed by Tommy Hicks, Bird Lives! will star Montae Russell as jazz icon Charlie Parker in this solo play with music. Parker, a legendary saxophone virtuoso, ushered in a new era of jazz by pioneering bebop and influencing subsequent generations of musicians. REDCAT opened its eleventh annual New Original Works Festival this weekend with a trio of intriguing pieces incorporating movement, dance, music, and a variety of theatrical elements that push the boundaries of thought and creativity. Disney XD has ordered a second season of its popular animated series on the Marvel Universe programming block, 'Marvel's Avengers Assemble' and 'Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.' It was announced today by Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television, at San Diego Comic-Con. Produced by Marvel Television, some of Marvel's most popular super heroes – the all-star Avengers and hard-hitting Hulks – will return to take on their most high-stakes battles yet. Both series are in production and slated to premiere this fall on Marvel Universe on Disney XD.

The Wrap writes that Marvel is moving ahead with a sequel to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, which is set to hit theaters on August 1. James Gunn will write and direct part two, perhaps with help of first GUARDIANS co-scribe Nicole Perlman, who broke the news today at Comic-Con.
