The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) will continue its popular Shakespeare Salon series on Monday, May 24 at 6 p.m. Shakespeare Initiative Director Barry Edelstein will moderate a discussion on 'Making Shakespeare in the Park: Onstage and Backstage,' featuring a cross-section of cast, crew and creative team members from this summer's repertory productions of The Winter's Tale and The Merchant of Venice at Shakespeare in the Park.

World Premiere of The Grass Was Never Greener by Jim Blanchette runs May 20 through May 30th at the new Write Act Eastside in residence at The Richmond Shepard Theatre (formerly The Vineyard Theatre), located at 309 East 26th Street. On July 24, the Hudson Stage Company of Croton on Hudson, New York, will host its annual gala fundraiser, 'Divas on Hudson.' The event will be hosted on a Hudson River property in Montrose. It will be tented rain or shine and will have seating available, in addition to expansive grounds for picnicking. The evening will feature a sunset concert with Broadway singers, a silent auction, wine and cheese, dessert, coffee and the view. Performers at past events have included Audra McDonald, Ann Hampton Callaway, Lauren Kennedy, Liz Callaway, Barbara Walsh, and Shoshana Bean.

The Tony Award-winning actor Billy Crudup opened the world-premiere of Adam Rapp's play THE METAL CHILDREN, last night, May 19 at the Vineyard Theatre. The show, also directed by Rapp, began previews May 4. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the opening night curtain call and after party.

The New York Times is reporting that producer Barry Weissler has said that The Scottsboro Boys will begin performances in October at the Lyceum Theater. No specific schedule has yet been announced however and the Times reports that 'While noting that plans could change, Mr. Weissler said in a phone interview that he and his colleagues believed the Beaux Arts style of the 107-year-old Lyceum -and its relatively intimate size for a musical, with 902 seats - with 'a good fit for a show that takes place in the 1930s and tells a story of rich history.'

Previews will begin today at Virginia's Signature Theatre for the world premiere musical Sycamore Trees written by Ricky Ian Gordon, the award-winning composer of the opera The Grapes of Wrath and the musicals Dream True and My Life with Albertine. A starry Broadway cast portrays Gordon's own family story - complete with a tough Bronx-born father and former 'Borscht Belt' singer/comedian mother - in a tale of two generations' struggles and triumphs in the decades from World War II through the 1990s.
