Today marks the start of frozen performances for the new musical Cubamor at Village Theatre's First Stage Theatre, though the production has already been on stage in front of public audiences for nearly a week. That's because Cubamor is the inaugural musical in Village Theatre's brand new program, The Beta Series, an unprecedented expansion to the theatre's renowned Village Originals program of readings and workshops and a testament to its ongoing dedication to the development of new works.

Village Theatre is excited to announce an unprecedented expansion to its Village Originals program of readings and workshops. The new Beta Series, headed by Associate Artistic Director Brandon Ivie, is a testing ground for musicals in the middle stages of development, consisting of a three-show series of performances throughout the year. 

Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, presentsARCHETYPE, a collection of six new mini-musicals, the culminating production of Prospect's 2016 Musical Theater Lab (the company's 10th lab production).  ARCHETYPE will play from July 27 - 31 at The Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street @ 1st Ave., NYC).

Jordan Kai Burnett (Love is a Battlefield) returns as the spicy chanteuse hostess. Bryan Blaskie (Assistants: The Musical) will return as musical director.

The 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals, presented by the National Alliance For Musical Theatre (NAMT), kicked off with THE 46TH MINUTE, a concert hosted by Lindsay Mendez and featuring performances by Heidi Blickenstaff, Doreen Montalvo, Mamie Parris, Bryce Ryness, and more. Musical presentations started October 23 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) and included Beautiful Poison, Cubamor, Great Wall, How To Break, Mary Marie, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes, String and Stu For Silverton. A new musical based on the 2008 movie Bottle Shock is now in development as part of the Ars Nova Uncharted program by writers James D. Sasser and Charles Vincent Burwell. Director Kent Nicholson helms the process.
