Producers Proteus Spann and Pro2Play Productions are pleased to announce the Washington-area premiere of the award-winning new gospel musical comedy Sanctified. Written by Javon Johnson, with original music by Rollo A. Dilworth, and directed by Derrick Sanders, Sanctified will play the historic Lincoln Theatre for a limited engagement, October 21 through November 14. Casting will be announced next month.

SummerStage has announced the continuation of their first theater season with American Schemes, written by Radha Blank and Directed by Charlotte L. Brathwaite. This show is a part of SummerStage's summer-long FREE theater program and will take place on Friday, July 2nd and Saturday July 3rd at St. Mary's Park, Bronx and Friday, July 9th at Crotona Park, Bronx at 8:00 p.m.

Lynn Nottage's Ruined, a powerful portrayal of the triumph of the human spirit in a war-torn country, will be co-produced this season by Intiman Theatre (opening July 9, 2010) and the Geffen Playhouse (opening September 15, 2010), the only two theatres in the country to host original cast members and the design team of director Kate Whoriskey's acclaimed world-premiere production.

This is the eighth season for Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company, which opens in October with a World Premiere Musical about the life of Bessie Smith written and directed by former Associate Artistic Director at the Alliance Theatre, David Bell. Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company and Jujamcyn Theaters presented the fourth annual August Wilson Monologue Competition National finals Monday, May 3 at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre (245 W. 52nd Street). The finals featured performances of monologues from August Wilson's Century Cycle by twelve regional finalists from Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Chicago and New York. The evening also included performances by Blues musician Guy Davis (Finian's Rainbow), Chris Chalk (Fences), LaTanya Richardson (Joe Turner's Come and Gone), Keith Randolph Smith (Fences, King Hedley II), Heather Alicia Simms (Gem of the Ocean, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom) and Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Gem of the Ocean, Tony Award winner for Seven Guitars). The competition was judged by celebrity judges playwright Regina Taylor (Crowns and Drowning Crow), costume designer Constanza Romero (Fences, Gem of the Ocean, Seven Guitars, The Piano Lesson), and actors Russell Hornsby (Fences, Jitney), Mykelti Williamson (Fences, 'Forrest Gump,' '24') and Phylicia Rashad.
