Arden Theatre Company Announces 2013-14 Season
by Kristin Salaky - Jun 20, 2013

For the Arden's 26th Season of great stories by great storytellers, the company presents a daring and ambitious musical, dramas that grapple with the complicated notion of the American family, provocative pieces by contemporary playwrights, and a new approach to a classic text. Says Arden's Producing Artistic Director Terrence J. Nolen: "The 2013/14 season will include a remarkable range of stories by master storytellers. We are proud to produce the work of Jason Robert Brown, Lydia Diamond, and Alfred Uhry at the Arden for the first time, and are thrilled to welcome plays by Philadelphia writers Quiara Alegria Hudes and Michael Hollinger to our stages. The coming year also includes a new translation by Curt Columbus of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters, and adaptations of Louis Sachar's Sideways Stories from Wayside School and Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat. Coming this fall, we will also open the Hamilton Family Arts Center, our new education and production center. We are thrilled by the prospect of creating our 2013/14 productions in this great new space.'

BWW Reviews: Trinity's Triumphant GARDEN Blooms with Love and Laughter
by Robert Barossi - Jun 5, 2013

In most cases, when you have a pair or set of something, one is bound to be stronger or better than the other. They may claim to be, or try to be, but one is usually superior in some way. Alan Ayckborn's House & Garden is no different. In this theatrical pair, two plays designed to be performed simultaneously in adjoining theaters by the same cast, the clearly superior sibling is Garden, the second of the two to open at Trinity Repertory Company.

BWW Reviews: Trinity Gets its HOUSE in Order With Unique Theatrical Event
by Robert Barossi - Jun 3, 2013

It's not every day hat playwright can come up with something completely unique or different. Everything has been done before, they say. If Alan Ayckbourn hasn't accomplished an entirely unique feat with his plays House & Garden, then he's at least done something pretty rare. You see, House & Garden are designed to be performed together, at the same time, by the same cast, in adjoining spaces. They involved the same characters, in one way or another, and deal with stories that intersect in numerous ways. The trick is to make each one of them a high-quality play that stands on it own. In that regard, House, the first one to open at Trinity Repertory Company, is not entirely successful.

by Michael L. Quintos - Jun 2, 2013

Now performing at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through June 9, Director Amanda Dehnert's beguiling new revival of THE FANTASTICKS comes to vibrant life as an old-timey vaudevillian review that just happens to have a love story woven into it. This clever, magical makeover, setting the piece in the midst of an abandoned, dilapidated amusement park called Rocky Point, has wonderfully spilled over into the show's staging, sets, costumes, and, yes, even the songs and characters, resulting in a refreshing new take on the 50-plus-years-old musical.
