La MaMa Suspends All Performances Through Nov 4

In light of power outages as a result of Hurricane Sandy, La MaMa has announced that it will suspend performances at its 3 theatres through Sunday, November 4. Cancelled are performances of UNDESIRABLE ELEMENTS FESTIVAL at Ellen Stewart (66 E. 4 St.) along with 2 FROM THE SEA at First Floor Theatre and HOWL! BENEFIT and Saturday's COFFEEHOUSE CHRONICLE Trav. S.D. and Tim Cusack at The Club, 74A E. 4 St. in Manhattan, the Brad Greenwood / eat the wolf exhibit La Galleria, 6 E. 1st St.

Hurricane Sandy has caused the cancellation of much of New York's theatre over the past few days. While most shows on Broadway are returning to their normal performance schedules beginning today, many of the city's off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway theatres are still struggling. On Friday, October 12 at 10PM, the dazzling new entertainment production Burlesque-A-Pades will begin an open-ended run at the SoHo Playhouse. Starring Angie Pontani and The World Famous Pontani Sisters, Burlesque-A-Pades will treat audiences to a unique evening that reaches into burlesque's past to offer up belly laughs and bump 'n' grind in equal parts. Hosted by The King of Boylesque Tigger! and The Great Deceiver Albert Cadabra, Burlesque-A-Pades will play the SoHo Playhouse every Friday at 10pm beginning 10/12.

Brick Theater Hosts Democracy Festival, Now thru 7/1

The Brick is extending its annual Summer Theme Festival Series with DEMOCRACY, a summer theater festival of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Throughout the month of June, 8 candidates will campaign against each other through a series of Public Appearances (i.e., performances) for the title of President of The Brick. The elected official will be given reign over The Brick for two weeks during January 2013, and will be in charge of curating all programming during this time period. The Presidential election will be held live at The Brick (575 Metropolitan Ave | Brooklyn NY) on Sunday, July 1. All voters must cast their ballot in person.
