Sundance Institute and NHK have announced Kentaro Hagiwara, director of the upcoming film, Spectacled Tiger, as winner of the 2013 Sundance/NHK International Filmmaker Award. The award was presented at a private ceremony at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Sundance Institute and India's Mahindra Group today announced the four winners of the 2013 Sundance Institute | Mahindra Global Filmmaking Awards, in recognition and support of emerging independent filmmakers from around the world. The winning directors and projects are: Sarthak Dasgupta, THE MUSIC TEACHER from India; Jonas Carpignano, A CHJANA from Italy-US; Aly Muritiba, THE MAN WHO KILLED MY BELOVED DEAD from Brazil; and Vendela Vida & Eva Weber, LET THE NORTHERN LIGHTS ERASE YOUR NAME from UK-Germany-US.
Music Box Theatre Announces 70MM FESTIVAL, 2/15-28

An epic format deserves an epic festival. For two weeks in February, Music Box Theatre screens nine movies - more than a half-ton of celluloid - at the Music Box Theatre 70MM Festival. Highlights include a brand new print of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and the return of Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master. Music Box has spent more than 100 man-hours prepping their 70mm equipment to ensure that even audiences who've seen 70mm before have never seen it with this clarity. The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced that it will present 15 films in their original 70mm glory, featuring a mix of beloved classics and rarely screened gems, all at the Walter Reade Theater - one of the last remaining cinemas in the country equipped to screen 70mm prints.

Film Comment's annual end-of-the-year survey of film critics, journalists, film section editors, and past and present contributors was released today with Leos Carax's HOLY MOTORS, Paul Thomas Anderson's THE MASTER and Wes Andreson's MOONRISE KINGDOM taking the top spots among films released in 2012. Among films that made appearances at film festivals or special screenings worldwide, but haven't been picked up for stateside distribution as of yet, Joachim Lafosse's OUR CHILDREN, Song Fang's MEMORIES LOOK AT ME and Alan Berliner's FIRST COUSIN ONCE REMOVED received the top rankings.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) has announced the nominees for the 18th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards. The winners will be announced live at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards ceremony on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. The show will broadcast live on The CW Network at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
ZERO DARK THIRTY Among Winners of Boston, NY & LA Critics' Awards

The Boston, New York and Los Angeles Film Critics Awards were announced over the weekend. Among the big winners was Kathryn Bigelow's ZERO DARK THIRTY, a thriller which recounts the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden. Also featured in the top choices were 'The Master' and 'Amour', with awards going to actors Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams.
