Opera Philadelphia presents Premiere of THE WAKE WORLD

This September, Opera Philadelphia launches O17, the inaugural edition of its game-changing new annual season-opening festival. A twelve-day immersion that promises to "blanket the city with opera" (Washington Post), the festival kicks off new partnerships with two key local cultural institutions. Each will host one of the festival's seven operatic happenings, both of them new operas developed - like 2016's award-winning sensation Breaking the Waves - under the auspices of the company's celebrated Composer in Residence program.

The Bang on a Can Marathon, celebrating its 30th anniversary, is presented for the first time at the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday, May 6, from 2 to 10 pm. The Marathon features eight hours of live performances by today's most innovative musicians and pioneering young artists.

The Young People's Chorus of NYC had its most successful gala to date on Monday, March 6th, 2017. The chorus members, ranging in ages from 8 to 18, were joined by Hamilton's Mandy Gonzalez, Spring Awakening's Alexandra Socha, and the extraordinary Time for Three ensemble, in one vibrant production number after the next.

For whom is a dance made and why? This question kept coming to me as I watched the unveiling of Merce Cunningham's 'Cunningham Ballett' at Baryshnikov Arts Center on May 18th, 2016. Thought lost to time, a film recording of 'Ballett' was recently unearthed in the archives of Norddeutscher Rundrunk Studio Hamburg. Nearly 50 years after it was recorded, the premiere of Cunningham performing the solo 'Changeling' was shown, followed by a live presentation of the same piece. The question is to what end? As an iconoclast would Cunningham himself not have said, 'Let dead things sleep where they lie?'

On Monday evening, March 7, at 7 p.m. with every seat in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater occupied, 400 chorus members of the Young People's Chorus of New York City filled the stage and the balcony boxes above, while YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Park Avenue Armory Receives $65 Million from Thompson Family

Park Avenue Armory announced today that the Thompson Family Foundation has given $65 million to kick-start a programming endowment that will allow the Armory to expand the range and number of groundbreaking works in the performing and visual arts it presents, as well as the scale and reach of its arts education initiatives for underserved public school students.
