The Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street, NYC) box office opens today, Friday, September 5 at 10 a.m., for tickets to Bernard Pomerance's Tony Award-winning play THE ELEPHANT MAN. Starring two-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper, Academy Award nominee Patricia Clarkson and Alessandro Nivola, the production is directed by Tony Award nominee Scott Ellis. Performances begin on Friday, November 7, 2014 and the production officially opens on Sunday, December 7, 2014. This is a limited engagement through Sunday, February 15.

Currently, the Shubert Organization owns seventeen Broadway theatres in New York City, but as BroadwayWorld previously reported, that number could soon become EIGHTEEN. Last week Michael Riedel reported that the 'Shuberts plan to build a state-of-the-art, 1,500-seat Broadway theater between West 45th and 46th streets - sandwiched between Frankie & Johnnie's steakhouse and the Shuberts' Imperial Theatre.'

According to PopMatters.com, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH co-creator Stephen Trask is co-writing a new 1970s New York clubs-based project called 15 MINUTES. 'It's a really exciting and creative and interesting project that starts off set in Studio 54 but ends up downtown at the Mudd Club,' says Trask.

This month the Great White Way's leading arts-education organization Inside Broadway and the largest local union of professional musicians in the world, Local 802 AFM, will offer a special "Summer Stock Jr." Camp from August 11-15 for NYC public school students grades 3-12. During the program, the students will be working with Inside Broadway teaching artists and members of Local 802 on putting together an original musical as well as taking exciting backstage field trips around Broadway; this is the sixth year of the program and the fourth year Inside Broadway has partnered with Local 802 AFM.

Shubert Organization Buying Off-Broadway's New World Stages?

According to the New York Times, the Shubert Organization, which owns almost half of Broadway's theatres, is in the process of making a deal to buy off-Broadway's New World Stages (34 West 50th St.). The theatre complex houses Avenue Q, Heathers, and more.
Stage Entertainment, currently owns the five-theatre venue. The European company brought musicals such as Rocky (which will close in August) to Broadway, and has likely suffered significant financial loss from the show's short run.
