Pasadena Playhouse to Present ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, 3/15-4/11

The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director), in association with Todd Gershwin and Daniel Chilewich of One Night Productions, LLC, the Estate of Janis Joplin and Jeff Jampol of JAM, Inc. announced today that ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN will fill the fourth production slot in the current 2012 - 2013 season. Hailed by critics in Cleveland as a "feel-good, fist-pumping, must-see" show, ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN has left audiences clamoring for tickets in Portland, Cleveland and Washington D.C. Now coming to The Pasadena Playhouse in celebration of the Los Angeles area's great Rock 'n' Roll history, performances will begin March 15 through April 11, with a press opening night on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. at The Pasadena Playhouse. Tickets are currently available with a 2012 - 2013 season subscription purchase. Single tickets will go on sale later this month.

Beginning December 12th, Pasadena Playhouse will transform its courtyard into a Winter Wonderland as families gather to celebrate the joy of the holidays. Family members from 1 to 91 will then experience A Snow White Christmas, a traditional British Panto produced by Lythgoe Family Productions that debuts this month at the Playhouse. Filled with magic, comedy, music and audience participation, it's the kind of show that director Bonnie Lythgoe and her son, Kris (who wrote the show), grew up with in England.
Dámaso Rodriguez Named New Artistic Director at Artists Repertory Theatre

Artists Repertory Theatre today announced that Dámaso Rodriguez has been selected as the next Artistic Director beginning in January 2013. Rodriguez takes the artistic reins of the 30-year-old Artists Rep from retiring Artistic Director Allen Nause, who has led the company for the past 25 years. Well known in Los Angeles for his daring, thrilling and visceral work as a multiple award-winning director, Rodriguez will direct the West Coast Premiere of Ten Chimneys, by Jeffery Hatcher, as his Artists Rep directorial debut in April.

From composer and lyricist Ben Toth and Sam Forman and book writer Jeff Arch, Sleepless In Seattle - The Musical, will be directed by Lonny Price, with Eric Stern as musical director, in its premiere at The Pasadena Playhouse in June, 2013. Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage takes great pride in the survival of black women through the ages. In her Pulitzer winner Ruined, it's how Congolese women have survived civil war, in her newest By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, it's blacks' struggles in the acting profession, and in Intimate Apparel, her most widely known play, it's a black seamstress who must fight for recognition and love at the turn of the 20th century. Now onstage in a handsome revival at the Pasadena Playhouse, Intimate Apparel has taut direction from Sheldon Epps and a stellar cast led by luminous Vanessa Williams as Esther.

The Pasadena Playhouse previously announced the full casting and creative team for INTIMATE APPAREL. Single tickets are also now on sale. Bill Rauch, Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is the 2012 recipient of The Zelda Fichandler Award recognizing an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through imaginative, brave work in theatre. The $5000 award, given by Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, heralds both accomplishment to date and promise for the future, and commends deep commitment to a community.
