The Strand Theater Company opens the inaugural season in its new home in Baltimore's historic Hamilton-Lauraville neighborhood with a regional premiere production of Net Worth, by Bari Hochwald. 

For the Record is first and foremost an absolutely awesome show visually... and emotionally. The creative team of For the Record, namely Anderson Davis, Shane Scheel and music supervisor Jesse Vargas, began these amazing shows back in 2010 at Show at Barre on Vermont which turned into Rockwell Table and Stage. It's perfectly suited to a cabaret setting focusing on movie scenes and songs from a particular filmmaker. I first saw Baz Luhrman before it crossed country to great success; another big hit is the show about Quentin Tarantino. Now, in its debut, For The Record: Scorsese American Crime Requiem world premieres at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts through October 16. Scenes form Martin Scorsese films are mixed together with pop songs from the soundtracks of his films featuring a spectacular cast. It's a bigger venue but suits Scorsese's over.the.top portrayal of violent crime in America to a tee.

Catalina Film Festival (CFF) rolled out the red carpet for the 6th annual Fest as it takes over the famed Catalina Island through Oct. 2. CFF is a competitive festival and film market where guests experience the West Coast's only resort island while enjoying upwards of 90 films, the annual Film and New Media Summit, and exclusive events.

On October 26th and 28th, Unison Media's performance series The Crypt Sessions will celebrate Halloween early with the world premiere of pianist/composer Gregg Kallor's dramatic canata based on Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, featuring mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Pojanowski, cellist Joshua Roman, and Kallor himself at the piano.

John Travolta stars in the new action thriller LIFE ON THE LINE, in theaters later this year. Directed by David Hackl, the film also stars Kate Bosworth, Devon Sawa and Sharon Stone.

The Byrd Hoffman Water Mill Foundation celebrated its 23rd Annual Summer Benefit & Auction, a one-of-a-kind evening bringing together over 1,000 guests from the worlds of theater, art, performance, fashion, design, and society at The Watermill Center on Saturday, July 30. The event, entitled FADA: HOUSE OF MADNESS, featured new works by Watermill's International Summer Program participants that came from over 25 countries to create installations and performances throughout the eight and-a-half acre grounds. This year, The Watermill Center honored Madame Giancarla Berti.

The exhibition, 'Haile King Rubie: Speaking Colors,' is primarily drawn from Rubie's 'art waves' of 2013 and 2015 and features contemplations of his otherwise inaccessible inner world. The new gallery space, located at 2070 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., is a welcome addition to Harlem's art district.

Netflix, the world's leading Internet network, announced today that it was making seven films written and directed by comedian Albert Brooks available for streaming for the first time starting tomorrow, Friday, July 1.
