The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Presents EUGENIE GRANDET, Aug 2-26

EugEnie Grandet, an adaptation of Balzac's classic story of love, greed and betrayal, will play the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013, at Assembly One George Square from 2 - 26 August. This will be the first ever stage production in English of this French classic.

'Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.' That was Winston Churchill's take on the game of golf, an opinion which might be shared by several top competitors at the recent US Open. Nevertheless, golf remains an obsession for many amateurs, and competition in inter-country club tourneys can be fierce. But nowhere is there a competition with more comedic punch than in Ken Ludwig's riotous farce, The Fox on the Fairway, beginning a 6-week run at Stage West on Friday, July 5. The work of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, better known to us as Moliere, returns to the Rose Footprint Theatre (the Company produced Tartuffe on the Footprint last season) with a new adaptation of one of his sauciest plays, Les Faux Pas: or The Counter Plots. Director Jenna Ware, who also adapted the piece, pulls out all of the stops with this riotously funny play. Featuring a cast of 11 new-comers and Company favorites Jenne Jadow and Dana Harrison Les Faux Pas: or The Counter Plots kicks off the Bankside Festival. Press Opening is Saturday, July 6 at 5:30PM.

The timeless classic family musical The Wizard of Oz, based on the beloved 1939 film starring Judy Garland, kicks off the 2013 Music Circus season with an extended run at the Wells Fargo Pavilion from today, June 21 - 30. Filled with favorite songs like 'Over the Rainbow' and 'We're Off to See the Wizard,' fans of all ages will once again be delighted as they follow Dorothy, Toto, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion on an enchanting adventure along the Yellow Brick Road to Oz. The Music Circus production will be the Royal Shakespeare Company version of the musical, which was first presented at the Barbican Centre in London in 1988 and is based closely on the classic film.

In Lee Blessing's cheeky off-beat comedyFortinbras (named as one of Time Magazine's best plays of 1991), the action starts where Hamlet stopped. The oddly chipper Norwegian Prince Fortinbras swoops in to Denmark to find himself in charge of a nation, but with the PR nightmare of having to explain all the deaths at Elsinore. Finding Horatio's account of the murders implausible, Fortinbras decides to make up the truth, much to the ire of the recently dispatched ghosts roaming the corridors, who want the true tale told.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the roster for Lincoln Center's fourth multidisciplinary White Light Festival, October 24 through November 23, 2013. The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. Other Festival components include: a panel discussion focused on the subject of time, pre- and post-performance artist discussions, and the popular post-performance White Light Lounges.

ATX Young Shakespeare Stages ROMEO & JULIETA, Now thru 6/30

Austin Shakespeare teen company Young Shakespeare will perform Romeo and Julieta at Richard Garriott de Cayeux' replica of an Elizabethan theater, The Curtain Theater, on the shores of Lake Austin 8 pm Thursday thru Sundays, tonight, June 20-June 30. This new adaptation uses Shakespeare own language peppered with contemporary Spanish language verse by Austin playwright, Rupert Reyes. The production features a mashup of contemporary costumes, Quinceañera dances and classic sword fights.
