25th Annual Independent Spirit Award Nominees Announced

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced nominations this morning for the 25th Film Independent Spirit Awards. Nominees for Best Feature include (500) Days Of Summer, Amreeka, Precious, Sin Nombre and The Last Station. Taraji P. Henson and Matt Dillon also announced finalists for the Acura Someone to Watch Award, the Truer Than Fiction Award, and the Piaget Producers Award.
A Serious Man was selected for the Robert Altman Award, which is given to one film's director, casting director and ensemble cast.

The 25th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards were handed out Friday, March 5, in Los Angeles. The film 'Precious' took home Best Feature honors while its stars Mo'nique and Gabourey Sibide won for Best Supporting Female and Best Female Lead respectively. Jeff Bridges won Best Male Lead for the film 'Crazy Heart', and Woody Harrelson picked up Best Supporting Male for 'The Last Messenger'. The full list of winners is below.

Comedian Eddie Izzard will host the 25th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards, Film Independent has announced. The awards will take place the night of March 5th at LA Live's event deck in Los Angeles. Film Independent said of the comedian, 'Izzard's tangential, absurd, bizarre, and surreal comic narratives are lauded for their creativity and wit, which suits the irreverent, laid-back style of the Spirit Awards.'

For its next fully staged opera, Mozart's 'Così fan tutte', St. Petersburg Opera has recruited a trio of local design and directing talents to join Maestro Mark Sforzini in bringing a school for lovers to the stage of the Palladium Theater from January 15-17, 2010.
