Cornish College Presents PENI CHANDRA RINI

Cornish College of the Arts presents a concert featuring the talented young Javanese singer and composer PENI CHANDRA RINI(see bio below) in concert with Gamelan Pacifica. The concert will feature Chandra Rini in performances of traditional Javanese gamelan music as well as her original compositions.

Norfolk & Norwich Festival today unveiled highlights of its plans for 2012. One of the headline acts this year will be Norfolk itself, continuing the trend of recent years that has put local people at the heart of the Festival. 100% Norfolk is a show about the population of Norfolk, starring the population of Norfolk, and is the UK premiere of a show created by the German experimental theatre company Rimini Protokoll. Its cast of 100 ordinary people will headline next year's bill alongside, modern day French circus phenomena Compagnie XY and Spira mirabilis who are redefining how orchestras perform and audiences experience classical music. For children, Erth's Dinosaur Petting Zoo will be touring school playgrounds and outdoor spaces throughout the Festival, giving Norfolk children their first chance in a million years to find out what it's like to feed a dwarf allosaurus.

ACCIDENTALLY, LIKE A MARTYR, a new play by Grant James Varjas about a group of gay men coming to grips with life and aging in the 21st century, will be given its world-premiere production Off-Broadway with preview performances beginning Dec. 15 prior to an official press opening Dec. 19 at Paradise Factory (64 E. 4 St.) in Manhattan. The play is directed by Mr. Varjas.

Park Avenue Armory Hosts Additional Concert as Part of Tune-In Music Fest

Park Avenue Armory has announced an additional concert in the line-up for its second Tune-In Music Festival, featuring four artists whose critical thinking and output have influenced and been influenced by Philip Glass and whose eclectic offerings represent a wide range of musical styles and genres. The Armory's Tune-In Music Festival will be held February 23-26, 2012, featuring and co-curated by the iconic composer Philip Glass on the occasion of his 75th birthday. The Armory's soaring 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall, with its cathedral-like acoustics and informal character, will set the scene for a concert environment that is at once both immersive and intimate, erasing the confines and eliminating the formalities of traditional concert halls.

On November 7th more than 150 theatre artists and patrons attended the 2011 Castillo Theatre Gala Benefit at the All Stars Project's performing arts and development center, 543 West 42nd Street. The gala, which raised a record $77,000 for Castillo and its youth theatre training program, Youth Onstage!, paid tribute to four influential women of the theatre: Carmen de Lavallade, Gabrielle L. Kurlander, Judith Malina and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
