HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER Star Announces Engagement On Stage

Friday night, April 11th, Kevin James Doyle surprised his co-star Margaret Copeland by announced her impending engagement before the sold-out audience at Off-Broadway's comedy smash, HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER. During the curtain call, Kevin hushed the crowd (which included former New York Governor George Pataki!) and revealed Margaret's recent engagement to Colin Hunter, CEO of Alton Lane Custom Clothing. Although Margaret had only shared the big news with her immediate family at this point, she rolled with the punches like a true New Yorker and brought Colin on stage to ecstatic cheers from the audience and a standing ovation.

Onstage Proposal Wows Crowd at HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER

Last week, the audience received a special surprise at Off-Broadway's comedy smash, HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER. At the point in the show where an unsuspecting audience member is brought up on stage for a brief tutorial on how to be a true New Yorker, the show's stars snared Tabitha Hernandez from the Bronx who was sitting in the front row. Before long, Tabitha's boyfriend Ruben Pacheco also jumped up to the stage, dropped to one knee and popped the question. He presented the ring, Tabitha happily accepted through her tears, and the entire audience roared with approval. Check out a video of the proposal below!

FAST COMPANY Opens Tonight at Ensemble Studio Theatre

Carla Ching's comedy Fast Company, about a family of Asian American con artists on the trail of a million-dollar comic book, opens tonight (March 17) at 7:00pm for its New York premiere at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street.

Off-Broadway's HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER Extends Through Labor Day

Due to overwhelming demand, the producers of Off-Broadway's hit comedy HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER today put a new block of seats on sale through Labor Day. Written and performed by Margaret Copeland and Kevin James Doyle, HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER began performances August 22, 2012 at Sofia's Downstairs Theater where the show played to packed houses for more than a year. The production reopened on October 19, 2013 to unanimous rave reviews at the brand new Screening Room Theater at Planet Hollywood Times Square, 1540 Broadway (entrance on 45th Street just east of Broadway).

Carla Ching's comedy Fast Company, about a family of Asian American con artists on the trail of a million-dollar comic book, begins previews for its New York premiere at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street, Wednesday, March 12, at 7:00pm for an opening Thursday, March 20, at 7:00pm (for a run currently scheduled through April 6). Robert Ross Parker of the Obie-winning troupe Vampire Cowboys directs.

World Premiere of BRANCHED to Begin Performances 2/13 at HERE

Off-Broadway's sellout comedy sensation HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER turns one today. Performances began August 22, 2012 at Sofia's Downstairs Theatre where the show played to packed houses until Sofia's recently lost their lease after 40 years. At the curtain call this past Saturday evening, the show's writers and stars, Margaret Copeland and Kevin James Doyle, brought their OBIE Award-winning director Robert Ross Parker onstage to help them lead the audience in a celebratory toast to their first triumphant year. And also to announce that HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER is going Hollywood! The show is set to reopen at The Screening Room Theater at Planet Hollywood Times Square on September 20th.
