Houston Symphony to Perform ROMEO & JULIET OVERTURE at Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6/28

On June 28, the Houston Symphony will perform a free concert as part of the ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights series at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The concert will feature the famous Romeo and Juliet Overture by Tchaikovsky, followed by popular works from Mendelssohn and Schumann. Led by American conductor Case Scaglione, the concert will also feature pianist Kuok-Wai Lio. Born in Macau, Kuok-Wai has gained worldwide recognition performing with various orchestras and for multiple festivals and competitions. Kuok-Wai will be making his Houston debut performing Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G Minor.

Danny Burstein, Eisa Davis, Raul Esparza, Peter Friedman, Judy Kuhn, Martin Moran, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Anika Noni Rose and Henry Stram will star in Marc Blitzstein's The Cradle Will Rock, the inaugural show of New York City Center's new Encores! Off-Center series, playing for five performances, July 10 - 13 at City Center. The show will be directed bySam Gold and choreographed by Chase Brock; Jeanine Tesori is the Encores! Off Center artistic director. Chris Fenwick is the music director. In keeping with City Center's founding mission to make the arts accessible to all and to younger audiences, the majority of tickets are $25.

The Laguna Playouse will present Hershey Felder's newest production, award-winning concert pianist Mona Golabek starring in the one-woman show, based on a true story, THE PIANIST OF WILLESDEN LANE. Adapted and directed by audience favorite Hershey Felder and based on the book The Children of Willesden Lane by Golabek and Lee Cohen, this music-filled evening recounts the personal story of Ms. Golabek's mother in Nazi-occupied Europe. THE PIANIST OF WILLESDEN LANE will perform for two weeks only beginning tonight, May 29 through Sunday, June 9 at the Laguna Playhouse, Moulton Theatre, 606 Laguna Canyon Rd. in Laguna Beach.

Pianist Simone Dinnerstein gained international success from her recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations, which ranked No. 1 on the US Billboard Classical Chart in its first week of sales. Music Accord, a consortium of ten presenting organizations across the United States dedicated to supporting the cultivation of American chamber music, announces the upcoming premieres of five commissioned works by Mark Adamo, Shulamit Ran, Sebastian Currier, Lowell Liebermann and Brad Mehldau.
